Celebrations welcoming 2025 unfolded across the globe, as communities came together to mark the New Year's Eve festivities with music, laughter, and resilience, even amid challenging weather.
One of the most popular locations was Times Square, New York City, where large crowds gathered dressed for the occasion—despite heavy rain to showcase their spirit as they prepared for the iconic ball drop. The night kicked off early with live performances starting at 6 p.m., featuring notable artists such as the Jonas Brothers, Carrie Underwood, Rita Ora, TLC, and more. Ryan Seacrest was also spotted mingling with festive attendees as the evening progressed.
The excitement peaked just before midnight, with the 60-second countdown marking the arrival of 2025, bringing with it dazzling confetti showers as the rain temporarily subsided. It was truly heartwarming to witness the tireless efforts of the sanitation crew cleaning the streets quickly, ensuring the celebrations persisted marauding rains.
Prior to New Year’s Eve, Times Square buzzed with activities inviting the public to partake. On December 19, the spectacle began when crystal triangles from the New Year’s Eve Ball were displayed, allowing spectators to replace old pieces with new ones as keepsakes. Then, on December 20, the gigantic numerals reading “2025” arrived and, for several days, provided ample photo opportunities for both New Yorkers and tourists alike.
Themed events continued with the 18th Annual Good Riddance Day occurring on December 28, during which participants symbolically erased bad memories from 2024 by writing them on chalkboards and wiping them away. Co-organized by the Times Square Alliance, this event allowed attendees to voice their frustrations and move forward with renewed hope.
On the eve of the New Year, preparations included testing the famous Ball, which weighs 11,875 pounds and is made up of 32,256 LEDs, capable of displaying over 16 million colors. The final installation of the sphere featuring newly-designed crystals was highlighted by CleanBoss co-founders Joy Mangano and Pitbull, who marked the partnership as the official cleaning partner for One Times Square.
While times square was buzzing, elsewhere, Geoff Tate—the former lead singer of QUEENSRŸCHE—hosted his own blockbuster New Year’s Eve party at Finland House, located in Lantana, Florida. On December 31, the venue burst with excitement as Tate and his nine-piece band delivered acoustic renditions of his hits, entertaining the packed audience. Guests enjoyed exceptional party food alongside champagne toasts, as well as participating in a best-dressed contest, adding to the celebratory ambiance.
“I think it’s great to get the community together—there’s not a lot for kids 18 and under to do. We started this event years ago,” Tate said during his interview with Rock Of Nations, reflecting on his connection with audiences.
Adding to the celebratory features, the Jamestown Skate Products held its annual New Year’s Eve party and chili cook-off, becoming quite the local event attended by skateboarders and families. Owner Pete Scheira described this gathering as particularly important for the youth in the area, providing them with entertainment and activities during New Year’s Eve.
“Skateboarding is relaxing and healthy. It has always been uplifting for our community,” said Erik Anderson, who attended the event along with his wife Michelle and many others. The event has been noted for promoting creativity among participants, with young attendees like Daymian Press expressing appreciation for the inclusive atmosphere.
While celebrating different traditions and events, one sentiment was clear: regardless of location, the New Year was approached with joyful resilience. Skaters, concertgoers, and Times Square revelers all shared the unified hope for good fortunes and happiness as 2025 began, echoing laughter through their respective venues. Organizers, artists, and community members alike shared their best wishes for the upcoming year, basking in the collective joy and anticipation for new beginnings.
