Zen Michalski Transfers From Ohio State To Indiana University

The offensive lineman returns home to bolster the Hoosiers' line for the upcoming season.

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana University (IU) football has secured the commitment of former Ohio State offensive tackle Zen Michalski, marking a significant addition to their offensive line for the 2025 season. Michalski, who hails from Floyds Knobs, Indiana, initially gained recognition as a four-star prospect from Floyd Central High School and was highly sought after during his high school recruitment.

Originally picking Ohio State over other major programs like Florida State, Louisville, and Penn State, Michalski has navigated through his college career with ups and downs. He is known for his impressive stature at 6-foot-6 and 319 pounds, but his gameplay experience has been somewhat limited during his time with the Buckeyes.

During his four years at Ohio State, Michalski has played 260 snaps, with the majority of his action coming at left tackle. His tenure saw him involved in 19 games, yet he spent much of his time also contributing on special teams. Michalski played his most significant snaps last season; he filled in midgame for the Buckeyes following injuries to teammates.

Despite showing promise, particularly as a run blocker—earning a grade of 73.8 from Pro Football Focus—Michalski struggled with pass protection during key games. He faced challenges against tougher opponents, giving up seven pressures across 75 opportunities. The transition to IU presents him with another chance to showcase his skills as he aims to lock down the right tackle position, particularly with the team needing new players post-departure of starting tackle Trey Wedig.

IU head coach Curt Cignetti believes Michalski's experience could be valuable for the team as the program looks to strengthen its offensive line. While historically, IU has focused on players with more starting experience, the inclusion of Michalski suggests trust in the coaching staff's ability to fine-tune talent. Offensive line coach Bob Bostad, known for his ability to develop players, may play a pivotal role here.

Beyond just filling gaps, Michalski's local roots—as he was born and raised in Indiana—bring added significance. His choice to come back home resonates positively with fans and the coaching staff, potentially translating to on-field performance driven by personal stakes.

This move is seen as the Hoosiers’ first big offensive line addition for the offseason, and they are optimistic about Michalski’s prospects within their system. Following the announcement of this transfer, the coaching staff will certainly be watching closely as they integrate him with existing team members, including established players like Carter Smith, Drew Evans, and Bray Lynch.

Given his potential, Michalski’s arrival is generating buzz among Hoosier supporters. His familiarity with the local football scene and drive to excel could serve as catalysts for his game, making Indiana University football fans excited about the 2025 season.

While Michalski has big shoes to fill, the Hoosiers are encouraged by the foundation they have built on the offensive line and the talent they continue to attract. Each addition like Michalski makes the team more competitive and resilient as they aim for success next year.
