Forum Asset Management and Campus Suites have officially broken ground on QUAD Phase 3, the latest expansion of student accommodations at York University, enhancing its capacity to house students at the Keele Campus.
This latest development is part of Ontario’s Bill 185, known as the Cutting Red Tape to Build More Homes Act, which was enacted to expedite housing projects. QUAD Phase 3 will see the addition of 841 beds divided between two eight-storey buildings, building on the success of Phases 1 and 2, which provided over 1,500 beds for students.
“QUAD Phase 3 builds on the proven success of the previous phases and demonstrates the strength of our partnership with York University Development Corporation and York University. We are committed to delivering purpose-built student housing,” said Aly Damji, Managing Partner of Forum Asset Management. This initiative aims to meet the increasing demand for on-campus housing, supporting York University’s growing student population.
President of Campus Suites, Henry Morton, expressed enthusiasm about this development, highlighting its potential to create community-focused living environments for students. “This project is an incredible opportunity to meet the growing demand for student housing,” Morton stated, emphasizing the importance of resources for academic success and overall student wellbeing.
Rhonda Lenton, President and Vice-Chancellor of York University, reiterated the university’s commitment to providing accessible housing solutions. “At York University, we are dedicated to ensuring our students have access to the housing they need,” she said, expressing confidence in the role QUAD Phase 3 will play when it opens its doors.
Salima Rawji, President & CEO of York University Development Corporation, echoed these sentiments, praising the collaborative efforts involved. “The groundbreaking of QUAD Phase 3 not only strengthens our academic mission but also showcases the power of sector partnerships,” Rawji stated, pointing out the forward-thinking strategies employed to drive long-term success for students and the university.
This development is anticipated to be completed by the 2026/2027 academic year, contributing significantly to the university’s ability to support its diverse community.
York University serves as home to over 50,000 students, making the demand for adequate campus housing increasingly urgent. This need prompted the initiation of QUAD developments, which provide accommodation options for students to live, learn, and thrive within close proximity to their educational facilities.
With QUAD Phase 3, York University embraces modern designs and amenities geared toward student needs, advancing its mission to create supportive and inclusive environments on campus.
