WrestleMania 41 Preview: Sky Defends Title Against Belair And Ripley

Excitement builds as three former champions clash for the Women's World Championship

Tensions will explode in this Triple Threat match as Women's World Champion Iyo Sky puts her title on the line against Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley in Night 1 of WrestleMania 41 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday evening, April 19, 2025. Will Sky overcome the odds to retain her title? Will "The EST" Belair reclaim her spot as the top women's singles wrestler? Or will Ripley prove it is her time with another impactful victory? All these questions will be answered at WrestleMania 41. Until then, DAZN News analyzes who has the edge heading into their Triple Threat match.

One would be hard-pressed to find weak spots in the wrestling styles of Iyo Sky, Bianca Belair, and Rhea Ripley. Each Superstar has carved out a distinct style, whether it is the aerial exploits of Sky, the packaged power and athleticism of Belair, or the ruthless aggression of Ripley. All three have been Women’s World Champions before, showing a willingness to take risks when deemed necessary. If there is the slightest push in anyone’s favor, perhaps it should go to Belair. Remember that a ringside commotion between Belair and Ripley empowered Sky to shock Ripley and become the new Women’s World Champion in early March. Then later in the month, when Ripley exercised her rematch clause, Belair, as a special guest referee, ruled it a double disqualification after being unintentionally wiped out by both Ripley and Sky. Perhaps it is Belair with the thin edge here simply because she is the freshest Superstar out of the three and the one who has given up the least of her strategy heading into this Triple Threat.

She is not called “The Genius of the Sky” for nothing. Women’s World Champion Iyo Sky takes to the sky arguably as great as some of the best aerial artists in WWE history. Belair, too, can go sky-high for some aerial exploits of her own, and even Ripley can when pressed to do so. But when it comes to aerial assaults, Iyo Sky is in a league of her own. Expect some brilliant, breathtaking spots from the champ under the brightest lights of WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas.

The checklist of qualities that makes Belair “The EST” includes her being the strongest in addition to the fastest and toughest. Whether it is hoisting a 330-pound Otis onto her shoulders, pressing Nia Jax over her head, or double-suplexing Sky and Bayley, Belair has shown the WWE Universe her feats of strength many times over. Just like we should expect a memorable aerial display from Sky, we have come to expect an awe-inspiring power surge from Belair.

The ruthless aggression of “The Eradicator” does not have any limits, especially when she rightfully feels like she has been burned twice. After rebounding from injury to defeat Liv Morgan and regain the Women’s World Championship, Ripley’s words with Belair ringside gave Sky the opportune moment to seize the title. Then, she was once again screwed out of the title when a double DQ call from special guest ref Belair squandered her chances to regain the Championship. If there is anyone whose mental anguish can power her to victory, it is Ripley.

Who has the edge in Sky vs. Belair vs. Ripley heading into their WWE WrestleMania 41 match? By our count, across four key categories, it is Belair with the slight edge over Sky and Ripley, 2-1-1. After spending a considerable amount of time tag-teaming with Jade Cargill, “The EST” could take back her place as the Women’s World Champion with another memorable WrestleMania moment on “The Grandest Stage of Them All.”

CM Punk is poised to headline his first WrestleMania pay-per-view event on Saturday, where he will face Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in a Triple Threat match. During a recent appearance on “The Masked Man Show,” Punk was asked about the thrill of main eventing WrestleMania. Instead of hyping his match, Punk declared that the WWE Women’s World Title match featuring Iyo Sky, Rhea Ripley, and Bianca Belair should have main evented WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, NV. He said, “People will constantly cherry-pick things I have said; they do it for everybody. ‘Oh, you said this one time 15 years ago.’ Yeah, I said it then, I meant it then, 15 years later, the context isn’t there and certain things change and it doesn’t necessarily apply. I’m very much a ‘title match main event.’ There is the sound byte all those fuking losers are going to steal and put on their Twitter. If it were up to me, believe it or not, Rhea, Bianca, and IYO would be the main event. I’m not saying which night. I can tell you that if I was in Triple H’s spot, I would gravitate towards that. My reasoning for that is, when is IYO ever going to get another chance? Bianca has done it already. It would be great if she got to do it again. Rhea hasn’t done it. You look at people that say ‘WrestleMania main event,’ Rhea Ripley is top of the list. I almost look at it more, that mindset that I have, it’s a detriment as a booker because I might not be putting business in front of my feelings. I’m putting my feelings in front of business. I think all three of those ladies are supremely talented. I know they’re going to steal the show.”

He continued, “I want to see my friends and my colleagues accomplish things. It doesn’t so much matter to me if I accomplish them. I know what it feels like to have that chip on my shoulder and be like, ‘This is my year, right?’ I’ve done things for 11.5 months, and then somebody comes in and goes, ‘Nope.’ It happens year after year and it gets a little much. Here I am arguing against myself. It’s funny how life works. I never thought I’d be saying any of that stuff ten years ago. I also think it’s kind of indicative of our locker room and the embarrassment of riches we have talent-wise that so many different people could be the main event. Bianca, Jey, Cody, obviously. Nobody is going to tell me that John Cena shouldn’t be main eventing WrestleMania in his last Mania. Stay vigilant, everybody. Bust your as and if it’s meant to be, it’ll come to pass and I’m obviously living, breathing proof of that.”

Meanwhile, Ripley spoke about her transformation since she first arrived at WWE on The Pat McAfee Show, stating she used to hide behind long blonde hair and was worried WWE wouldn’t hire her because she had tattoos. “It took a lot. I was always someone that would listen to every part of the criticism that people would throw at me, and honestly, it started eating me alive, and I just didn’t feel comfortable being myself. I wanted to have the long blonde hair to hide behind it. It was my hiding mechanism, you know? If I got shy, I just hid behind my hair. I didn’t get tattoos because I was worried that WWE wouldn’t hire me because I had tattoos. I didn’t like standing out too much. I just wanted to please everyone. And then I got to a point where I wasn’t happy being me like that anymore. I wanted to be my true self, and ever since I embraced who I am as a human and started dressing the way that I wanted to dress, I cut my hair, I felt more confident because I couldn’t hide behind it. Man, it felt good. I think everyone should just embrace their inner self and their true self, and they’ll start to love themselves. Screw what people say about you. Love yourself.”

The WWE Women's World Title bout between Ripley, Belair, and Sky is set to be part of WrestleMania 41 Sunday. All three competitors have a storied history in WWE, and each will be looking to add another championship reign to their accolades. With the stakes this high, fans are in for a thrilling showdown.
