Vote Now For Cape & Islands High School Athlete Of The Week

Local fans urged to support standout students competing across basketball and hockey.

Fans of Cape Cod and the Islands are once again invited to participate in the exciting school sports tradition of voting for the week's top performers across high school basketball and hockey. The Cape & Islands High School Athlete of the Week Polls are back, inviting support from the community by recognizing the impressive achievements of local student-athletes.

This week's polls feature athletes from both the girls and boys categories, along with some thrilling statistics to help voters make informed decisions.

Girls Basketball Player of the Week Poll

Starting with the Cape & Islands Girls Basketball Players of the Week Poll, fans are encouraged to vote for the players they think stood out the most during the past week. The poll is open until Monday, with winners announced every Tuesday. Votes must be cast via the Cape Cod Times website or mobile site, as email and social media submissions will not be counted.

This week's candidates are:


  • Izzy Almeida, Mashpee: Almeida came out strong with 21 points, eight steals, five rebounds, and four assists during her team’s 51-25 victory over Nantucket.

  • Savannah Azoff, Dennis-Yarmouth: Azoff scored significantly, leading her team with 31 points to secure a 62-43 win against Carver. She continued her offensive prowess with 26 points leading to another victory against Notre Dame Academy-Hingham and 17 points against Durfee.

  • Raeghan Blake, Bourne: Blake contributed 16 points to her team's 67-39 win over Monomoy, showcasing her scoring ability.

  • Avery Cobban, Sandwich: Cobban scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds, even amid challenges faced during their loss to Duxbury.

  • Ashley Cox, Barnstable: Cox scored 18 points, demonstrating her talent, though the team faced defeat against New Bedford.

  • Jocelyn DeMedeiros, Sturgis West: DeMedeiros helped secure her team’s 37-32 victory with 10 points and 18 rebounds, followed by notable defensive plays against Martha's Vineyard.

  • Raegan Dillon, St. John Paul II: Dillon made her mark with 12 points and 15 rebounds as they beat Upper Cape with ease.

  • Madison Lawrence, Sandwich: Lawrence performed admirably, scoring 20 points with eight rebounds helping Sandwich to 53-43 win over Falmouth.

  • Gianna Lubash, Cape Tech: Lubash pulled down 15 rebounds, adding four points and three steals, though it was unfortunately not enough to top Cape Cod Academy.

  • Maeve Malloy, Sturgis West: Scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, she was instrumental in defeating Old Colony.

  • Alanna McDonald, Mashpee: McDonald had solid contributions with 17 points, six steals, and seven rebounds sealing the deal against Nantucket.

  • Paige Meda, Bourne: Meda's perfect consistency continued with 17 points across two games.

  • Kinleigh Mohan, Falmouth: Mohan was defensively strong with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and nine steals.

  • Paige Morrison, Sandwich: Morrison was defensive dynamo with nine steals to aid her team’s victory.

  • Cassidy Nicholson, Upper Cape: Nicholson came close to a triple-double with 10 points, 10 steals, and seven rebounds.

  • Jaylene Pires, Dennis-Yarmouth: Pires scored 20 points, leading her team beyond Carver significantly.

  • Sophia Riker, Cape Tech: Riker emerged defensively, registering 10 steals alongside six points and six rebounds.

  • Addison Sundby, Cape Tech: Sundby excelled with 14 rebounds and eight points across their latest matches.

  • McKinley Wenzel, Bourne: Wenzel scored 15 points on average, significantly contributing against Fairhaven.

  • Nori Wray, Sturgis East: Contributing to her team's sizable win, Wray scored 15 points against South Shore Tech.

Boys Hockey Player of the Week Poll

Transitioning to the ice, the Cape & Islands Boys Hockey Players of the Week Poll is also open, with fan votes accepted through Tuesday, followed by winners being announced every Wednesday.

This week's candidates include:


  • Nate Averill, Martha's Vineyard: Averill hit the notable milestone of 100 career points, buoyed by a six-point game to overpower Dennis-Yarmouth.

  • Evan Barraso, Upper Cape: Freshman goaltender Barraso stopped 33 of 34 shots during his first career win.

  • Max Cronen, Monomoy/Mashpee: Featured prominently with four assists to lift his team over Nantucket.

  • Tyler Dmytryck, Upper Cape: Dmytryck shined with his first career hat trick, including two short-handed goals.

  • Jake Eldredge, Nauset: Eldredge made substantial contributions with two goals and two assists against Plymouth North.

  • Luke Greeley, Sandwich: Despite challenges, Greeley made 42 saves during high-pressure matches.

  • Casey Huse, Monomoy/Mashpee: Huse tallied four goals leading to victory over Nantucket.

  • Hunter Johnson, Martha's Vineyard: Johnson excelled with four assists, contributing to another significant win.

  • Logan Miller, Nauset: Miller scored the winning goal to secure victory with mere moments remaining.

  • Sean Monaghan, St. John Paul II: Monaghan secured the win with two goals, including the deciding goal just before overtime concluded.

  • Jackson Palmborg, Bourne: Palmborg's performance earned him recognition after stopping 32 shots for the shutout against Old Rochester.
