Customer complaints began pouring in around 7:30 AM ET, with many taking to social media to express their frustration. Reports to Downdetector, the website tracking tech outages, showed spikes from users struggling to connect. By 10 AM, Verizon acknowledged the issue on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Our engineers are engaged and we are working quickly to solve the issue." This was the first indication from the company about the problems plaguing its network.

“I just thought my phone was broken or maybe I hadn’t paid my bill,” said Chauntelle Rodriguez, one distraught customer, describing how she struggled to get her phone working throughout the day. Many shared their own experiences of express panic and confusion, with some customers needing their phones for urgent matters like work and family communications.

Gordon Tremelling, another Verizon user, shared how he had to deal with helping neighbors who were cut off from their phones, emphasizing the panic it caused, especially for individuals relying on their devices for medical communication. "I can’t believe this happened so unexpectedly. We rely on our phones for everything from work to keeping up with family," he lamented.

Verizon's engineers worked throughout the day to restore services, and by around 8 PM, they announced via social media: "Verizon engineers have fully restored today's network disruption. Service has returned to normal levels." While this update offered relief, for many customers, the damage was already done. Numerous users had their day disrupted by the inability to communicate.

Verizon spokesperson Ilya Hemlin later stated, "We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers. We understand how much people rely on our services and appreciate their patience during this outage." The cause of the outage was not disclosed, prompting some speculation among users about the reliability of services.

By the end of the day, users reported regaining service, though many remained frustrated by how it affected their daily routines. Some discussed alternative communication methods they resorted to during the outage, such as using Wi-Fi calling where possible or relying on landlines and face-to-face communication.

Adding to the frustrations, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released their own announcement, indicating they're investigating the incident to understand its cause and impact.
