The Faculty of Architecture and Design at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEMex) has achieved significant milestones, reaching over 90 percent of its goals set for the period from 2021 to 2025. This impressive accomplishment was highlighted during the announcement made by the university's rector, Carlos Eduardo Barrera Díaz, at the third activity report delivered by the faculty's director, Xavier Gaytán Zepeda.
During the event, held with the presence of various university members including former directors and students, Barrera Díaz emphasized the faculty’s commitment to excellence, stating, "100 percent of the professional study programs of this academic space are certified by external bodies." This certification showcases the university's dedication to maintaining high academic and professional standards, setting it apart as a distinguished institution.
Following the report, the rector also presented the faculty with valuable resources, including five 65-inch screens, five projectors, fifteen surveillance cameras, fifteen computers, and fifteen chairs for administrative personnel. These tools are expected to facilitate both teaching and learning experiences, contributing to the overall advancement of the academic community.
Barrera Díaz reflected on the growth of student enrollment and the increase in the graduation rate, pointing out the importance of this achievement as evidence of the university’s effectiveness. He stated, "The increase in the student body and the total rate of graduation, as well as the offer of higher diplomas, allow for the generation of resources which have made it possible to acquire equipment for the benefit of this academic community."
On another note, Gaytán Zepeda reported on the faculty’s global engagement, sharing statistics about international collaboration. Roughly 68 percent of full-time professors are involved with international peer networks, which facilitates cross-border academic dialogue and professional exchange. This collaboration not only enriches the faculty's curriculum but also broadens the career perspectives of its students.
The director also highlighted significant advancements within the research community, noting the accomplishments of faculty members within the National System of Researchers. One researcher ascended to Level 3, and two others have entered the candidate category. These milestones contribute to improving the faculty's reputation and demonstrate the commitment to research excellence.
To fulfill its goal of achieving 51.6 percent of scientific output with social relevance, the faculty organized the 'Accessibility Day' initiative. This event aimed to raise awareness of the rights of vulnerable populations, showcasing the faculty's commitment to social responsibility and community engagement. By addressing these issues, UAEMex aims to not only educate its students but also impact the broader community positively.
Throughout the report, there was appreciable recognition of the faculty’s dedication and effort, demonstrating its role as a beacon of academic excellence and social commitment. "We owe much to the community of the Faculty of Architecture and Design for their dedication and effort, which have helped consolidate this academic space as a reference of academic excellence and social commitment, being the basis for continuing to build a promising future," Gaytán Zepeda remarked, acknowledging the collaborative spirit within the faculty.
The event also saw the attendance of several key university officials, including María Esther Aurora Contreras Lara Vega, Secretary of Planning and Institutional Development, and other prominent members from various sectors. Their presence underscored the importance of integration between the faculty and broader institutional governance.
Reflecting on these impressive achievements, it is clear the Faculty of Architecture and Design is not only meeting its set goals but is also establishing itself as a leading institution within Mexico. Its efforts exemplify how academic institutions can adapt, grow, and prioritize social responsibility alongside academic excellence.
With the significant investments recently made for technological resources and the strong focus on community engagement, UAEMex's Faculty of Architecture and Design is poised to continue delivering outstanding education and contributing positively to society. The commitment to enhancing educational quality, engaging with the global community, and pursuing social responsibility positions UAEMex as a cornerstone of higher education excellence.
