UAEH Opens Admission Process Amidst Veterinary Community Calls For Responsibility

This initiative coincides with urgent awareness efforts on animal welfare responsibilities and recent veterinary challenges.

The Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo (UAEH) is making significant moves to strengthen its educational offerings and community responsibilities. On February 11, the university will officially announce its admission process for various undergraduate and graduate programs, reinforcing its position as one of the leading educational institutions not only in Hidalgo but across Mexico.

With educational units spread throughout Hidalgo, UAEH facilitates access to quality education without the burdensome travel distances often faced by students. Their programs are strategically devised to align with labor market needs, spanning fields from health sciences and technology to humanities and business.

To assist prospective students, UAEH is also launching intensive preparatory courses aimed at enhancing candidates' knowledge and skills, making them more competitive for entrance exams starting with sessions slated from March to May 2025. These courses are especially important as they offer thorough preparation divided across several key subject areas, ensuring participants feel confident on examination day.

José Ignacio Olave Leyva, professor at UAEH, emphasizes the necessity for future pet owners to understand the responsibilities intertwined with animal companionship and welfare. "It is fundamental to recognize," noted Olave, "that veterinarians and zoologists are not the only ones responsible for animal welfare; pet owners must also play their part. Responsible care includes proper nutrition, adequate living conditions, and emotional needs alongside preventive care.”

This sentiment is underscored by recent events highlighting increasing violence against veterinarians. Following the tragic death of Hector Hernández Cañas, who was killed by the owners of a Yorkshire terrier during treatment, veterinary professionals across Hidalgo joined together to protest and demand action against this alarming trend. Olave remarked, "The well-being of animals is shared responsibility. If empathy fails at either side—professionals or pet owners—the situation can deteriorate quickly."

The protest not only aimed to draw attention to the crisis within the veterinary community but also served as a platform for creating greater awareness among the public about animal welfare and responsible ownership. According to Gilberto Rivera, treasurer of the College of Veterinarians of Hidalgo, there have been at least 20 documented threats against local veterinarians over the past month. With around 100 registered veterinarians, and estimates of 350 across Hidalgo, the risks posed to professionals are significant and concerning.

On the educational front, the UAEH has made notable strides, being recognized as one of the top universities in international rankings, especially noted for engineering, life sciences, and physical sciences. The university’s continuous commitment to providing accessible education ensures its place as the premier institution for many students wishing to pursue higher education.

To stay abreast of the admission details for various programs, interested students are encouraged to utilize the Discover UAEH platform, which offers interactive exploration of available courses and standards necessary for success. Future applicants should remain vigilant as announcements for admissions to the basic high school level and other educational programs are expected soon across the university's communication channels.

The upcoming events reflect UAEH's dedication to not only elevat-ing academic standards but also to fostering responsibility and care within the community. This holistic approach serves to prepare future generations academically, socially, and ethically, ensuring both personal and community growth. The UAEH continues to stand out as not only an educational beacon but also as a partner to the community, fostering shared responsibilities in animal welfare and education.
