Consumers are advised to check their kitchens and stadium seating before heading out to events, as two significant product recalls have been announced due to safety hazards.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall for hundreds of thousands of digital kitchen scales manufactured by Greater Goods due to potential risks to children. The digital kitchen scales, bearing the model numbers 0480, 0455, 0456, 0458, 0473, 0479, 0481, 0747, 0748, 0749, 0751, 0752, and 0754, are being recalled for violating federal safety regulations concerning button batteries. These violations raise grave concerns, particularly as the scales come pre-installed with lithium coin batteries, which can be easily accessed by children.
According to the CPSC, "These violations pose an ingestion hazard." With numerous reported incidents of injury from button battery ingestion, the risks are considerable. If swallowed, these batteries can cause serious internal chemical burns, leading to severe injuries, or even death, though fortunately, no injuries linked to this recall have been reported. The scales, which have been sold across various retailers and most recently before February 2025, come available in multiple colors including gray, black, blue, green, pink, red, silver, and white.
For consumers who find they own the recalled kitchen scales, immediate action is recommended to prevent potential hazards.
Equally concerning, about 22,500 AMX Global Portable Folding Stadium Seats have also been recalled due to safety issues with their hooks. An investigation revealed these hooks, which are intended to secure the seats to bleachers, could crack and break. The stadium seats were sold at BJ's Wholesale Club, Big 5 Corp stores, and online through Amazon from July 2022 to January 2024. Retail prices for these seats ranged from $30 to $50.
These stadium seats were sold under different brand names, including BJ's Wholesale and Black Sierra, and they bear logos indicative of their respective brands. The Black Sierra seats feature date codes of either 05/2022 or 11/2022, whereas the Berkley Jensen brand seater displays the date code 04/2022.
Consumers who have purchased these recalled seats are urged not to use them. Instead, they should cut through the fabric on the seat and backrest. Once the seats have been effectively destroyed, owners must take photographs showing the cuts along with their initials and the date, and send this evidence to AMX Global. A full refund will be processed after compliance with these instructions.
"If you have the recalled stadium seats, you’re told not to use them and cut through the fabric on the seat and backrest," advised the CPSC, reinforcing the importance of adhering fully to the recall process and consumer safety recommendations.
Both recalls serve as stark reminders of the implicit risks associated with consumer products, especially when it involves children's safety. Parents and guardians should remain vigilant and proactive about the products within their homes and those they may purchase for public events.
For more information or to inquire about the recalled products, consumers can reach AMX Global at 888-439-5139 from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM ET, or visit their website.
