TUI is set to make summer holidays even more exciting for Welsh travellers with a major expansion at Cardiff Airport. The travel giant has unveiled new routes and increased flight frequencies to some of the most sought-after holiday destinations. This move offers holidaymakers more choice, flexibility, and convenience when planning their summer getaway from their local airport.
Starting in summer 2026, TUI will base a fourth aircraft at Cardiff Airport, significantly expanding the range of holiday spots available. This addition will make it easier for Welsh travellers to jet off to stunning destinations.
New Destinations
Among the new routes, TUI will launch a brand-new service to Hurghada, Egypt, starting from 2nd May 2026. This exciting destination promises Egyptian sunshine and vibrant culture, perfect for a memorable holiday. Following closely, a new route to Faro, Portugal, will take off on 21st May 2026, offering access to Portugal’s golden beaches and breathtaking coastlines, ideal for sun-seekers and explorers alike.
Additionally, the Fuerteventura route in the Canary Islands will be new for summer 2026 but will also run during the winter season, starting 20th December 2025. Holidaymakers can enjoy Fuerteventura’s year-round sunshine and stunning landscapes with greater flexibility. These new routes make it easier for Welsh travellers to discover diverse destinations, from Egypt’s rich history to Portugal’s coastal charm and the Canary Islands’ natural beauty.
More Flights to Popular Spots
TUI is also responding to growing demand by boosting flight frequencies to several holiday hotspots. This means more opportunities to visit beloved destinations like Turkey, Spain, and Tunisia. For instance, flights to Antalya, Turkey, will increase from three to four per week, making it easier to explore Turkey’s vibrant resorts and historic sites.
Moreover, flights to Gran Canaria, Spain, will double, moving from one to two weekly flights, offering more chances to enjoy its sunny beaches. The popular Mallorca route will see an increase from five to six weekly flights, perfect for those craving Mediterranean vibes. An additional weekly flight to Enfidha, Tunisia, will bring the total to three, giving travellers more options to visit Tunisia’s cultural treasures. Tenerife, Spain, will also gain an extra weekly flight, increasing to four, making it simpler to soak up the island’s year-round warmth.
These changes ensure Welsh holidaymakers have more flexibility to plan their trips to these in-demand destinations.
A Commitment to Welsh Travellers
Chris Logan, TUI UK&I Commercial Director, spoke on the expansion, stating, “We’re thrilled to expand our offerings from Cardiff Airport. With new routes and more flights to top destinations, we’re making it easier for our customers to plan their perfect holiday. The growing demand for places like Turkey, Tenerife, and Mallorca has inspired us to increase capacity, giving travellers more options.”
Lee Smith, Head of Business Development at Cardiff Airport, echoed this sentiment by highlighting the benefits for Wales. “TUI’s investment in Cardiff Airport is fantastic news for Wales. Adding a fourth aircraft in summer 2026, alongside a second this winter, shows TUI’s confidence in our market.” He added, “With 48,000 extra holidays available next summer, including new routes to Faro and Hurghada, we’re excited to work with TUI to keep growing.”
