Tien Giang Province is making significant strides toward poverty reduction and job creation, building success stories through innovative programs like livestock support and employment initiatives.
One sunny morning, residents from the hamlets of Phước Phong, Phước An, and Phước Thuận gathered eagerly at the Phú Tân commune’s government office. The excitement was palpable, as they awaited the draw for livestock provided by the Livelihood Diversification Project, part of the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction. Among them was Ông Thạch Liên, who expressed his gratitude, stating, "Received from the program, I am very happy. This is an opportunity for my family to improve income..." The joy here is not just about receiving cattle, but about the hope for economic upliftment.
Over the years, many families, like the one led by Ông Lâm Lươl, have struggled with poverty, depending solely on labor for income. Thanks to the new programs launched by local authorities, families are being equipped with resources to break free from cyclical poverty. For Lươl, receiving two breeding cows and feed from the initiative was life-changing. He shared, "Every day after work, I gather grass to feed the cows. Seeing them grow strong brings me immense happiness." His wife, Thạch Thị Sà Khét, added, "With proper care, we hope this model will lift us out of poverty for good."
The program not only provides livestock but also extensive training on animal husbandry, ensuring families can maintain their new assets effectively. Ông Lý Thanh Tuấn, Head of Phước Thuận Hamlet, highlighted the benefits, stating, "The bred cattle provided are strong hybrids suitable for natural conditions and easy to care for. With each pair of breeding cattle, poor households receive technical training on their care, feeding, and disease prevention." This holistic approach fosters long-term sustainability and economic independence.
By targeting 2024, Tien Giang has reported nearly 500 households escaping poverty, reducing the provincial rate to 0.87%. The Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, Lý Văn Cẩm, stated, "For 2024, we plan to create more jobs for about 20,000 laborers..." The collaborative effort aims to provide sustainable solutions to help families build stable incomes.
Local government initiatives have included financial assistance reaching nearly 422 billion VND (around 18 million USD) for social welfare programs. Communities have played their part, showing tremendous generosity, with various contributions enhancing infrastructure and community well-being.
These initiatives extend beyond livestock. Employment projects and training programs are actively engaging younger residents, particularly those with challenges entering the labor market. Efforts are also underway to increase job offerings, with future goals targeting sectors like agriculture and trade.
Key officials are optimistic about these collective efforts. Dương Thanh Ngọc, Vice Chairman of the Phú Tân People’s Committee, stated, "With support for producing cattle, the workload is little but gives high income, making it easier for families to escape poverty." This sentiment reflects the resolve of local authorities, emphasizing their commitment to not leaving anyone behind.
Reflecting on these success stories, the community is embracing hope for the future. The cooperation between government officials, local enterprises, and residents forms the backbone of this comprehensive strategy to alleviate poverty and boost socioeconomic standings. For families like Ông Thạch Liên’s, this means the possibility of a stable, secure future.
With determined efforts and shared responsibility, Tien Giang Province stands as a beacon of progress. The transformative power of the integrated initiatives signifies one promising path to overcoming poverty, underscoring the collective vision: to create sustainable through cooperation and care.
