Three Killed In Fog-Related Accidents On Bathinda-Chandigarh Highway

Heavy fog leads to tragic road mishaps, raising safety concerns among drivers.

Bathinda: A tragic series of accidents on the Bathinda-Chandigarh highway left three people dead early Saturday morning as dense fog significantly reduced visibility.

The first accident occurred when a car, en route to Bathinda, suddenly collided with a truck parked roadside near Lehra Mohabbat. The occupants of the car, identified as Vans Bansal and Vansh Wadhwa, tragically lost their lives at the scene, highlighting the dangers present on the highway during foggy conditions. Rinku Kumar, another occupant, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Following this incident, authorities confirmed they have registered a case against the unidentified truck driver at the Nathana police station. It raises concerns about parked vehicles on highways, especially when visibility is so poor.

Just hours later, another fatal accident occurred nearby Chetak Park, where Bhola Singh, the driver of a tractor-trailer, was killed after being struck by a bus. Singh had parked his vehicle near the park following mechanical issues, and as he crossed the road, the bus hit him, fatally injuring him.

The accidents serve as tragic reminders of the precautions necessary for road safety during inclement weather. Local officials have been urging drivers to exercise extreme caution when driving through fog, which is common during the winter months.

According to local reports, the sudden visibility reduction caused several drivers to panic, leading to the unfortunate chain of events on Saturday.

Reflecting on these incidents, experts suggest greater awareness and education on safe driving practices, particularly under conditions of limited visibility.

Continued assessments by police investigators are expected as they aim to address safety measures and avoid such tragedies on the roads going forward.
