Thragg Makes His Long-Awaited Debut In Invincible Season 4

Creator Robert Kirkman confirms the powerful Viltrumite villain will finally face off against heroes in upcoming episodes.

Invincible fans, embrace yourselves for double trouble as the Viltrumite Thragg and Conquest, two of the deadliest villains from the series, will feature in Season 4. It was a long wait for the audience, who has followed this animated superhero series since the beginning. Thragg, the main antagonist who rules the Viltrumite empire, has not appeared in the Prime Video series until now, but guess what? The wait is over.

Robert Kirkman, the maestro of the Invincible series, recently announced that the time has come for the audience and the series to witness the wrath of Thragg, who has been an underlying villain since the beginning of the series. The Grand Regent of the Viltrum Empire is built to be the strongest Viltrumite and took over the planet after Thaedus killed Emperor Argall in the comics. Now, finally bringing him in Season 4 will be the gift all fans have been waiting for. Invincible Season 4 is set to unleash the main antagonist, Thragg, on the screens.

Imagine watching the whole action-packed world of Invincible and witnessing seasons without the actual villain coming into the picture. The fans have been patient, and Robert Kirkman could not hold on to excitement while revealing that Thragg’s entry will be the highlight of Season 4. He said, calling Thragg’s character “amazing”: “I mean, it would certainly be weird if he didn’t show up in the show. Yeah. I mean, I don’t know. It’s so tough. Here’s what I’ll say: He’s been cast and he’s amazing.” Thragg’s character is pivotal in the comic, which Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley created beautifully.

When will Season 4 of Invincible hit Prime Video? Building a world around the Grayson family, where the son, Mark (Invincible), and father, Nolan (Omni-man), have fought like enemies in Season 1, the show has come far to build parallel plot points. It has gone through twists and turns, revealing the true intentions of Conquest, who reappears in Season 3 for one of the most dreadful fights with Mark.

During Invincible's 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, the show’s upcoming Season 4 was announced officially. What’s been made public is that the upcoming season might premiere in 2026 on Prime Video. Robert Kirkman has been adamant to make sure that “the show comes out as regularly as possible.” The actor, JK Simmons, the voice for Omni-man, had revealed that he had already started working on the upcoming season and said: “Yeah, we actually have dipped our toes – or at least I have – into the next season. And I’m looking forward to… I don’t know when in the next coming months, but looking forward to getting back in the studio again.”

With Conquest's defeating fight with Mark in Season 3, the next step is the emergence of Thragg in the series. Thragg will take over the ultimate war, mentioned in the comics, between Viltrumites and Planet Earth. Fans must gear up to embrace the beginning of a new chapter with Thragg’s arrival. The casting details for Thragg’s character are a mystery for now. Still, speculation suggests that actors like Walking Dead alums Norman Reedus or Lincoln could be in line.

The finale of Invincible season 3 hit all the right boxes, both in terms of the in-world and meta context. With the finale titled “I Thought You’d Never Shut Up” currently standing at a near-perfect score on IMDb, the finale is getting all the praises as the reunion between Steven Yeun and Jeffrey Dean Morgan couldn’t have gone any better.

As for Morgan’s casting as Conquest, even though creator Robert Kirkman was aware of the potential risk, given the former’s reunion with The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke, Kirkman wasn’t going to let this opportunity slide. Having already appeared in the previous season of The Boys, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is now gearing up to reunite with his Winchester boys, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, for the show’s final installment. Fortunately for fans, this isn’t the lone major homecoming for the actor, as Robert Kirkman was adamant about rejoining forces with the Dawn of Justice star, given that Morgan and Steven Yeun’s history in The Walking Dead.

Kirkman explained: “I’m always trying to find roles for the actors that I know and love and want to work with again. I’m always trying to find something for Jeffrey.” When he started showing up on ‘The Boys,’ I couldn’t let Eric Kripke have all the fun. As a result, the Dead City star ended up becoming their ultimate choice for Conquest, and while some initially feared the meta aspect of Yeun and Morgan’s history might overshadow the finale, Kirkman felt otherwise. Robert Kirkman entertained the meta aspect of TWD’s influence on Invincible.

Despite the dip in ratings during its final years, Negan remained one of the biggest highlights of The Walking Dead. In hindsight, this is sort of insane, as his introduction to fans was quite gnarly, especially for Abraham and Glenn fans. Thanks to Kirkman, the Invincible season 3 finale not only elevated an already great show, but Conquest’s defeat at the hands of Mark was also a nice bit of justice for longtime TWD fans. Morgan expressed, “I didn’t hesitate just because there is the meta of it all like, ‘Oh, it’s the rematch between Glenn and Negan, and now Glenn gets to win.’”

He further elaborated that he thinks the parallel enhances the stakes for anyone who’s a longtime Walking Dead fan. “With the next season potentially in line for a 2026 release, it’s safe to say we haven’t seen the last of Jeffrey Dean Morgan in Invincible just yet. Invincible is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, drawing in audiences with each gripping episode of action and drama.

With the much-anticipated Season 4 set to delve deeper into the conflicts between heroes and villains, the excitement surrounding the return of Thragg and the revelation of more about Conquest will undoubtedly keep fans on the edge of their seats. Kirkman's ambition to maintain the show’s rhythm promises that there’s a lot more coming for Invincible fans.

As the world of Invincible grows, viewers can prepare for more thrilling encounters, intricate character arcs, and epic battles between factions, as the stakes continue to rise in this already dynamic series.
