Suryakumar Yadav Celebrates 100 Matches For Mumbai Indians

The star batter joins elite company in IPL history during ongoing match against Lucknow Super Giants

In a landmark achievement, Suryakumar Yadav, the star middle-order batter for the Mumbai Indians, reached a significant milestone on April 4, 2025, by playing his 100th match for the franchise during their ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. This remarkable feat places him among an elite group of players, becoming the eighth cricketer to reach the century mark for the Mumbai-based franchise.

Suryakumar, who has been a pivotal player for MI since rejoining the team in 2018, first made his IPL debut for the franchise in 2012. His debut match was against the Pune Warriors India, where he unfortunately recorded a duck, dismissed for just four balls. After a brief stint with the Kolkata Knight Riders from 2014 to 2017, he returned to MI, where he has since become a key figure in their batting lineup.

Before the match against LSG, Suryakumar was honored with a customized jersey to commemorate his 100 matches for the franchise, a touching tribute to his contributions over the years. He joins legends like Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Harbhajan Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga, Hardik Pandya, and Ambati Rayudu in this distinguished club of MI players.

Rohit Sharma remains MI’s most capped player, having featured in 215 matches, while Kieron Pollard follows with 189 appearances. Harbhajan Singh was the first player to achieve 100 matches for MI, reaching this milestone during the 2016 IPL season. The current list of players who have played 100 or more matches for MI includes:

  • Rohit Sharma – 215
  • Kieron Pollard – 189
  • Harbhajan Singh – 136
  • Jasprit Bumrah – 133
  • Lasith Malinga – 122
  • Ambati Rayudu – 114
  • Hardik Pandya – 109
  • Suryakumar Yadav – 100

As for his performance, Suryakumar Yadav has amassed 3,090 runs in his 100 matches for MI, making him the third-highest run-scorer in the franchise's history, trailing only Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard. His impressive IPL stats include an average of 35.53 and a strike rate of 148.91, showcasing his ability to score runs quickly and efficiently. He is also one of only three players to surpass 3,000 runs for MI, alongside Rohit and Pollard.

In addition to his consistent run-scoring, Suryakumar has two centuries to his name, which ties him with Rohit Sharma for the most centuries scored for MI. His ability to perform under pressure is highlighted by his record of 25 scores of 50 or more, establishing him as a reliable asset in crucial situations.

Notably, since returning to MI in 2018, Suryakumar has been the leading run-scorer for the team, demonstrating his importance to the franchise. His tally of 116 sixes is only surpassed by Rohit and Pollard, marking him as a significant big-hitter in the lineup. Furthermore, he is one of the few players, alongside the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, to have scored over 500 runs in multiple IPL seasons for MI, notably achieving 605 runs in 2023 and 512 in 2018.

In the current IPL season, Suryakumar also had the honor of leading MI in their opening match against the Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, as regular captain Hardik Pandya was unavailable. His leadership and performance have been instrumental in MI's strategies as they aim for another successful season in the IPL.

During the previous match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Suryakumar showcased his capability by scoring an unbeaten 27 runs off just nine balls, helping MI secure a crucial victory. His form and experience will be vital as MI navigates through the ongoing tournament.

From a young player making his debut to becoming a seasoned captain and one of the franchise's all-time greats, he has consistently delivered for MI. As he celebrates this milestone, fans and teammates alike look forward to many more memorable performances from him in the IPL.

As the match against Lucknow Super Giants continues, all eyes will be on Suryakumar, who is not just playing for personal accolades but also aiming to lead MI to yet another IPL title.
