More than 40 lakh students across India are eagerly awaiting the results of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 and 12 examinations, which took place earlier this year. The results are anticipated to be announced between May 13 and May 17, 2025, although no official date has been confirmed yet by the CBSE. This year's exams were held from February 15 to April 4, with Class 10 exams concluding on March 18 and Class 12 exams wrapping up on April 4.
As the countdown to the results continues, students are advised to remain vigilant against misinformation circulating on social media. There have been numerous misleading claims suggesting that the results will be released in two parts, which the CBSE has officially denied. The board has emphasized that the results will be declared in a single announcement, and students should only rely on official channels for updates.
The CBSE has also warned students about the potential for website traffic overload when the results are released, which can cause the official portals to crash. To mitigate this issue, students can also check their results through alternative methods such as SMS, the DigiLocker app, and the UMANG app. The official websites for checking results include cbse.gov.in, results.cbse.nic.in, and cbseresults.nic.in.
Students should note that to pass the CBSE exams, a minimum of 33% marks is required in each subject, including both theory and practical components. Those who narrowly miss the passing mark may be eligible for grace marks. In addition, students who fail in one or two subjects will have the opportunity to take compartment exams, which are scheduled for July or August.
This year, approximately 24.12 lakh students participated in the Class 10 exams across 7,780 centers nationwide, while around 17.88 lakh students appeared for the Class 12 exams, covering a total of 120 subjects. The CBSE has introduced a revised grading system aimed at reducing academic pressure and competition. Under this new system, grades are assigned based on students' performance relative to their peers rather than fixed mark ranges.
Students are encouraged to keep their admit cards ready as they will need their roll numbers, school codes, and dates of birth to access their results online. For those who may have lost their admit cards, they can retrieve their roll numbers from their schools or check their DigiLocker accounts if linked to their Aadhaar.
The CBSE also provides 24/7 psychological support for students after the results are declared, offering toll-free helplines and online resources for those who may experience stress or anxiety during this time. This initiative is part of the board's commitment to supporting students' mental health.
As the results approach, the anticipation is palpable among students and parents alike. Last year, the CBSE recorded a pass percentage of 93.60% for Class 10 and 87.98% for Class 12. With expectations high, many are curious to see if this year's results will follow a similar trend.
In light of the recent escalation in tensions between India and Pakistan, which led to school closures in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Ladakh, some students are concerned about potential disruptions to their education. However, the CBSE has reassured students that their results will not be affected by the ongoing geopolitical situation.
Once the results are released, students will be able to check their scores on multiple platforms, including SMS services. For SMS, students can send a formatted message to receive their results directly on their mobile phones. The format for Class 10 results is "cbse10 |RollNumber| |SchoolCode| |CentreNumber|" sent to 7738299899, while for Class 12, the message should be formatted as "cbse12 (roll number) (date of birth) (school number) (Centre number)."
In addition to the results, the CBSE will not release a merit list to avoid unhealthy competition among students. Instead, the board will provide statistics on overall performance and highlight the top-performing regions. Traditionally, regions such as Trivandrum and Chennai have shown remarkable performance in previous years.
As the results draw near, students are reminded to check their provisional mark sheets for any errors and report discrepancies to their schools promptly. The official mark sheets will be available for collection from schools approximately 10-15 days after the results are declared.
With millions of students awaiting their fate, the CBSE results are not just a reflection of academic performance but also a stepping stone towards future educational and career opportunities. Students are encouraged to stay calm, verify their details, and prepare for the next steps in their academic journeys.
