Sonia Fowler Faces Life-Changing Choice After Father's Return

Sonia's estranged father offers her a chance to leave Walford and start anew.

EastEnders fans were gripped by a bombshell revelation for Sonia Fowler (played by Natalie Cassidy) as an offer could take her away from the drama-filled streets of Walford. Sonia received a major surprise on Monday, April 14, when her estranged father, Terry Cant (Glen Davies), made an unexpected entrance to the Square after learning about her harrowing experience with the villainous Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman). In the episode that followed, viewers witnessed the emotional encounter between Sonia and Terry, who divulges that he has built a life in Bali working as a mindfulness coach, but his stay in London was slated for just a week.

However, Terry's intention to reconnect with Sonia was thwarted when a sudden call necessitated his early return to Bali, which sparked Sonia's anger. But Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) reacted furiously to Terry's sudden appearance, insisting on him leaving Walford and bringing up the anguish and turmoil he inflicted upon their mother, Carol, reports Plymouth Live. Amidst a fiery face-off, Bianca confronted Terry with the words: "If you really had Sonia's best interests at heart you would have never come back here Terry." She continued with a stinging rebuke: "I remember my mum crying at night on the stairs, you made her feel like nothing. Sonia doesn't need you, she never did, she is doing just fine without you."

Terry hit back, challenging Bianca's perspective: "This, this is fine, is it? Stuck here with you dripping poison in her ear all day." Bianca refused to stand down, retorting sharply: "The truth isn't poison; she doesn't want you here, nobody does. So why don't you get on your little speedboat and sail off into the sunset?" After Bianca's reaction to Terry's arrival, EastEnders fans are now suspecting that he has a hidden dark past and Sonia is being set up for disappointment again. One EastEnders enthusiast posted on X: "Terry's definitely hiding something #EastEnders." Another commented: "#EastEnders I hope Terry is not being dodgy or after money." As a third added: "This Terry's a wrong'un."

"Am I the only one that thinks Bianca's reaction to seeing this bloke who she hasn't seen since she was 8 is a bit strong? #EastEnders," questioned one viewer. "I can see Bianca's point; she's old enough to remember what Terry put Carol through and she wants to protect Sonia, especially more so after all she's been through lately, but Sonia needs to make her own decision even if Wrong again #EastEnders," another viewer explained.

In Tuesday's episode, April 15, 2025, Sonia was given a life-changing decision to make, which could see her leave Albert Square for good. There was a huge surprise for Sonia this week when her long-lost dad appeared at her front door – having introduced himself to Bianca earlier. She struggled to believe that he was telling the truth in today's episode, especially after Rocky's lies several years ago, but Terry insisted that he could prove he is her biological father. Sure enough, when Sonia reluctantly let him into the house, Terry produced an old family photo and a passport that confirmed his identity.

Bianca had no time for Terry, after he abandoned his family decades ago, but Sonia wanted to give him a chance. She let him explain why he wished to reconnect, then said that she needed some time to think about whether to let him back into her life. Terry found Bianca drinking in Harry's Barn, and they were soon joined by Jack. He wasn't pleased to see Terry, who had hurt his sister Carol in the past. Jack called round to chat to Sonia about this unexpected reunion, and she asked for his advice. He said that if Terry is genuine, this could be a positive relationship for Sonia, especially if he lives abroad.

Later, Sonia came to her decision and told a delighted Terry that she wanted them to start getting to know one another, but insisted they take things slowly. But Bianca arrived home at this point and wasn't pleased to see Sonia giving her dad a chance. With the memories of the hurt he caused the family at the forefront of her mind, she confronted Terry and told him to stay away. In response, Terry decided to tell Sonia that Bianca had known he was back and had kept the information to herself.

Sonia was hurt that Bianca had tried to send Terry away behind her back and fell out with her sister yet again – even comparing Bianca's controlling nature to Reiss. Terry later revealed that he could only stay in Walford for 48 hours, as he had to return to Bali for his mindfulness business, and Sonia was hurt that he was leaving so soon. He then suggested that Sonia come back to Bali with him, along with Bex and baby Julia, allowing them to properly reconnect. How will Sonia react to this surprise proposition, and is this what leads her to say goodbye to Walford?

Terry Cant's past role on the beloved show as Sonia Fowler's real dad has left fans stunned. This week is seeing viewers of the BBC soap preparing to say goodbye to Natalie Cassidy's character, who debuted all the way back in 1993. The character of Terry Cant has been mentioned for over 30 years, and back in 2021, Sonia thought she finally met her dad when Brian Conley's Tom 'Rocky' Cotton faked his identity to scam her. Sonia was heartbroken to learn that Rocky had nothing to do with her father and was actually the brother of 'Nasty' Nick Cotton.

With Terry finally in Walford, viewers may recognize his actor Glen Davies from a number of the UK's biggest shows. Glen is an established soap actor, having appeared in the likes of Emmerdale, Hollyoaks, Casualty, Holby City over the years. On top of this, he has popped up on Call the Midwife, Sherlock, Miranda, New Tricks, and Maggie Smith's film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. The actor's most known role is arguably as Andy Prank on the BBC children's series Bear Behaving Badly, which saw him battling with Nev the bear.

EastEnders fans rushed to the show's Reddit page to exclaim their shock at one of their favorite 2000s characters popping up on Albert Square. As one of the fans mentioned, Glen appeared on EastEnders on a number of occasions between 1995 and 2013, including as a plumber. It remains to be seen whether Terry Cant is here to stay, or if he and Sonia will leave the show and finally get to know each other. EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6 am ahead of their TV broadcast.
