Silvia Galván, Renowned Stylist, Dies After Cancer Battle

The beloved Mexican stylist passed away at 70, leaving a legacy in the beauty industry.

Silvia Galván, a renowned Mexican stylist known as "the stylist of the stars," passed away on April 16, 2025, at the age of 70 following a battle with advanced stomach cancer. Her death was confirmed via a post on her official Instagram account, bringing a wave of sorrow to the artistic community in Mexico.

Galván was diagnosed with stomach cancer just over six weeks prior to her death, after undergoing surgery for a stomach perforation. Her family revealed that she had been fighting bravely against the illness, showcasing her resilient spirit even in the face of dire circumstances.

Jessica Galván, Silvia’s eldest daughter, shared details about her mother’s last days during a press conference held outside the funeral home in Mexico City. "When we received the diagnosis, we were told it was a very severe case with little hope. But my mom is a warrior; she said, ‘I’m not going to give up, and if there’s a treatment option, we’re going to pursue it,’" Jessica recalled, emphasizing her mother’s determination.

Despite the grim prognosis, Silvia initially responded well to treatment. Jessica noted, "After the diagnosis, she was doing well, exercising every day. I started to think it was going to work out." However, complications arose when Silvia underwent a kidney procedure on April 14 due to inflammation, which marked the beginning of her decline.

The following day, she received chemotherapy, and tragically, she did not survive the treatment. "The only day that was tough was during chemotherapy; that’s when she started to feel very unwell and suffered a heart attack," Jessica explained.

In the days leading up to her passing, Silvia spent time at home, enjoying her favorite activities. "She was at home, exercising, watching her series, reading her devotional—she was happy. We were showering her with love, and she was very joyful," Jessica shared, painting a picture of a woman who remained spirited until the end.

Silvia Galván had a significant impact on the beauty industry in Mexico, establishing herself as a prominent figure with multiple salons and collaborations with various artists and television programs, including the popular show Hoy, which airs on Televisa. Her journey began in San Pedro de Garza García, Nuevo León, where she opened her first salon after completing her training at a beauty academy.

Having transitioned from a secretary to a stylist, Silvia pursued her passion for beauty and fashion, overcoming numerous challenges along the way. She married at 16 and had two daughters, Jessica and Erika, who have spoken fondly of their mother’s legacy.

In an interview, Silvia once expressed her understanding of her role in the beauty industry, saying, “From a young age, I realized that being in front of the camera wasn’t for me, so I thought, ‘If I’m not going to be up there, I can be behind the scenes.’” Her talent and professionalism earned her recognition and a vast network of connections, allowing her to thrive in the competitive world of beauty.

Following her death, tributes poured in from friends, colleagues, and fans alike. Sylvia Pasquel, a close friend, expressed her grief, stating, "You were not just my friend, but my sister and accomplice." The artistic community mourned the loss of a visionary who had inspired many.

Jessica and Erika emphasized their mother’s strength and faith throughout her illness. "She always said, ‘I’m not ready, but I’m prepared.’ She believed she was going to a place where she would be with God, which gave her hope. She had no fear but wanted to fight to stay here as long as possible. She never complained or expressed resentment toward anyone, including God," Jessica recounted.

Despite the severity of her illness, Silvia was able to spend quality time with her daughters in the weeks following her diagnosis. "We had a lot of time to be with her after the diagnosis, and it was a gift for us to talk with her, to see her smile, even with a feeding tube. The end wasn’t difficult for her; it was just one day of suffering, thank God," Jessica reflected.

As the family navigates this challenging time, they are also focused on preserving Silvia’s legacy. Jessica mentioned, "Everything is in order regarding her inheritance. We have a good team that has been with us for a long time, and we are committed to keeping her essence alive in our work."

Silvia Galván’s contributions to the beauty industry and her inspiring battle against cancer will be remembered by many. Her unwavering spirit and dedication to her craft left an indelible mark on those who knew her and those she influenced through her work.

As the community reflects on her life, it’s clear that Silvia Galván was more than just a stylist; she was a beacon of hope and resilience, a true icon in the world of beauty.
