Shota Mase Celebrates Passing High School Equivalency Exam

The actor shares his educational perseverance and future nursing ambitions with fans.

Shota Mase, the young actor known for his vibrant performances, recently announced his successful completion of the high school graduation equivalency exam, marking a significant milestone in his pursuit of becoming a qualified nurse.

On the 4th, Mase shared his achievement through his Ameblo blog, stating, "実は皆さんに1つ報告です!" ("Actually, I have one report to share with all of you!"). This moment not only highlights his dedication to education but also reflects on his earlier struggles as he navigated both the demanding entertainment industry and his schooling.

Starting at just 17 years old, Mase immersed himself in the entertainment world, engaging heavily with dance and singing, often dedicatively practicing more than four days each week. He recounted, "僕は17歳の頃に芸能界に入り、ダンスや歌を朝から夕方まで週4回以上やっていた時期がありました" ("I entered the entertainment industry at 17 years old and spent most of my days from morning to evening dancing and singing more than four times each week"). This intense schedule led to challenges, particularly concerning his education.

Despite his passion, he couldn't manage to graduate high school, which he found troubling. Mase reflected, "このままじゃダメだな。" ("I thought, ‘This situation can’t continue like this’"). The lack of formal education began to weigh on him, and he felt the pressing need to return to his studies, yet faced barriers such as time and financial constraints.

Fast forward to present day, Mase is now pursuing his educational goals as he prepares to become a nursing professional. He excitedly shared on his blog, "ただ、今は看護学生になって卒業も見えてきました" ("But now, I've become a nursing student, and graduation seems to be coming closer"). This transition to nursing is not just about gaining qualifications, but also about fulfilling his ambition of serving others through healthcare.

One primary reason he chose to aim for the nursing field, particularly the qualification of practical nurse rather than registered nurse, is related to their educational requirements. Mase explained, "何故という資格を得ようとしたのか、にも繋がるんですが准看護師は中学校を卒業してれば資格を得られます。" ("The reason I decided to pursue the qualification of practical nurse instead of registered nurse is because you can qualify as a practical nurse right after graduating from middle school"). Unlike the registered nurse path, which necessitates high school graduation, Mase's strategy enabled him to enter the healthcare field more swiftly.

To reclaim his educational credentials, he sought out the high school graduation equivalency exam, known as 高等学校卒業程度認定試験. He shared, "2023年の冬頃から高卒認定試験を初めて受け始めました" ("I began taking the high school equivalency exam around winter of 2023"). Remarkably, during his first attempts, he succeeded in geography, setting the stage for his continued educational progress.

Mase's story is not just one of personal achievement; it serves as inspiration for many who find themselves at the crossroads of education and career ambitions. With both acting and nursing aspirations, his determination to complete his studies and work toward graduation speaks volumes about resilience and adaptability.

Through this experience, Shota Mase embodies the idea of lifelong learning and the importance of education, and he sets an excellent example for aspiring professionals balancing multiple commitments. His narrative encourages others to pursue their passions relentlessly, regardless of the challenges they face along the way.
