The popular Japanese television program Shūichi will expand its broadcast schedule starting this April, introducing Saturday programming to its loyal viewership. With the transition to weekly broadcasts, Shūichi aims to engage more audiences every weekend.
Joining the team as the new Saturday MC is Daichi Tanabe, who has been with NTV for five years. He will work alongside experienced host Hidetaka Nakayama, who has helmed the Sunday broadcasts for the show, with Erina Iwata continuing her role as the Sunday MC as well. The Saturday shows are set to air at varying times, but the Sunday broadcast will remain firmly scheduled for 7:30 AM.
Tanabe is no stranger to the spotlight. Originally hailing from Niigata Prefecture, he was once a soccer player at his local high school and even represented his region at the 2015 High School Soccer Championship. His history as a sports reporter lends him the expertise to navigate information across various fields—including news, sports, and entertainment.
Reflecting on his new role, Tanabe expressed mixed feelings of surprise and anxiety when he first learned he would take on the MC position. "I was surprised and felt anxious if I could do it, but I am honestly happy to be the MC for Shūichi, which I have loved watching since my student days," he stated. This will mark his first full-time engagement as MC, transitioning from reporting and sports shows to leading Shūichi with broader topics.
While expressing his excitement, Tanabe acknowledged some apprehension due to his limited experience with variety shows. "I've never participated much in variety programs before, but I hope to join fun filming sessions of Shūichi and share the beauty of Niigata with the audience. I want to communicate honestly and fully capture the moments I experience firsthand," he said.
Nakayama, who will partner with Tanabe, also shared his insights. He noted, "Tanabe-kun's charm is his seriousness and honesty. He has been shaped by tough athletic environments, so I am eager to see how he adapts to our show's more entertaining segments." He emphasized the importance of maintaining focus during the live broadcasts, humorously alluding to the challenges of long hours.
Writing the scripts and moderations for Saturday shows adds new excitement for Nakayama. He stated, "Saturday is truly new life for Shūichi. I want Tanabe to show his color and create new scenery together." He and Tanabe will need to balance the show's established tone with fresh content and perspectives.
The anticipation surrounding the MI program reflects the show's evolution over the years. Nakayama remarked about the longevity and adaptability of Shūichi: "This will be the 15th year of Sunday programming. We have experienced many changes over the years, but there’s always the same essence we strive to present." He expressed hope for the addition of Saturday broadcasts to invigorate the show's routine, which many viewers anticipate.
Viewers of NTV's Shūichi have long relied on the program for accurate and engaging content touching on various subjects, from information to entertainment. This evolution toward weekend broadcasting promises to expand this service even more effectively.
With new routines set to launch, the producers and the team have emphasized their commitment to maintaining high standards and integrity. The camaraderie between Nakayama and Tanabe is expected to bring inviting energy and relatability to the new programming.
For avid fans and newcomers alike, the transformation of Shūichi serves as exciting news. The upcoming programs aim to combine traditional content with innovations, enhancing the viewing experience. So mark those calendars—Saturday mornings are now part of the Shūichi experience!
