Valencia Launches Fallas 2025 With Vibrant Crida Celebration

A colorful opening event features live music, dance, and fireworks honoring the resilience of the Valencian people.

Valencia is abuzz with excitement as it officially kicks off the Fallas 2025 festival with the Crida celebration, scheduled for February 23, 2025, at 19:30 at the iconic Torres de Serranos. This year’s Crida promises to be more vibrant and inclusive, featuring live music, traditional dance, aerial acrobatics, and spectacular fireworks, all under the unifying theme, 'Despertant els nostres cors' (Awakening Our Hearts).

The festivities begin early on Sunday with the Despertà, starting as early as 07:15. This lively event will take place across various parts of the city, culminating with the famous mascletà, where explosive displays of pyrotechnics fill the Plaza del Ayuntamiento at 14:00, courtesy of Pirotecnia Valenciana. It’s all part of the day-long celebration to herald the return of the beloved Fallas festival.

Valencia's Mayor María José Catalá spoke enthusiastically about the event, stating, "We are officially welcoming Fallas 2025 with enthusiasm and creativity." The day's program also includes the traditional Entrada de Bandas, where local music bands march through the city, adding to the festive atmosphere.

At the Crida event itself, Mayor Catalá will pass the keys of the city to the Fallera Mayor, Berta Peiró, and the Fallera Mayor Infantil, Lucía García, who will deliver the iconic proclamation, "¡Ja estem en Falles!" or "We are already at Fallas!" This moment is deeply symbolic, linking the community with the celebration and future festivities.

This year's rendition of the Crida is especially poignant; it pays homage to the resilience of the Valencian people following last autumn's devastating floods. Berta Peiró remarked, "This year's Crida will focus on the resilience of Valencia and its people," highlighting the strong spirit of recovery and camaraderie among the locals.

The Crida’s program is packed with various performances, including the renowned Escolanía de la Virgen de los Desamparados choir, traditional folklore dances performed by Les Folies de Carcaixent, and thrilling performances by aerial acrobats. All these acts aim to honor Valencia’s rich cultural heritage and artistic talents.

Plans for public safety and mobility have been put firmly at the forefront, with the city council implementing extensive traffic management measures. Major access routes around the event sites will be closed off to secure public safety and the smooth flow of festivities. Specific areas will be designated for pedestrian access, and local police will oversee stringent security protocols, including checks for prohibited items.

Visitors are advised to plan their journeys accordingly, with alternative transportation options, including metro and local bus services, detailed on Valencia's public transport site. The event is expected to attract thousands of spectators, making the traffic arrangements even more significant.

The evening will culminate with fireworks by the Pirotecnia Peñarroja, promising to light up the night sky, rounding off the powerful Crida with splendor and excitement. The official broadcast of the Crida will be available through multiple media channels to share this festive occasion with those unable to attend.

With this year’s newly invigorated schedule and themes, Valencia’s Crida for 2025 is set to spark energy, pride, and joy within the community as they come together to celebrate their culture and traditions. The Fallas festivities are not just local celebrations; they are invitations for everyone to witness and partake in the warmth and vibrancy of Valencian spirit.
