SBT Clarifies Datena's Temporary Absence From 'Tá Na Hora'

Contrary to rumors of conflict, Datena is on planned family travel and interviews during the break.

On February 11, SBT issued a statement clarifying the situation surrounding José Luiz Datena's absence from the program "Tá Na Hora." Speculations had circulated earlier about Datena stepping away due to alleged conflicts behind the scenes at the network. The broadcaster emphasized, "Atendendo a pedidos de nossos colegas, esclarecemos que não é verdade que José Luiz Datena será afastado do comando 'Tá Na Hora.'" The message stressed the presenter merely swapped his scheduled Carnival break to travel from February 13 to 20 with his family.

Datena's upcoming absence from the show will be temporary, as Bruno Peruka is set to fill in during this period. Peruka has previously substituted Datena during past scheduling conflicts, including during New Year's. The network confirmed these details would prevent any disruption, reitering through their communication, "O apresentador apenas trocou suas folgas do Carnaval para os dias 13 a 20 próximos, quando estará em viagem com sua família." This move highlighted SBT's intent to maintain smooth programming flow.

Datena’s travel itinerary includes significant engagements. He plans to visit Brasília on February 12 to conduct a live interview with Finance Minister Fernando Haddad. Following this professional commitment, he will head to Portugal, particularly the city of Fátima, recognized for its Catholic sanctuary. Datena shared with Notícias da TV his intentions for this visit, saying, "Pretendo rezar por aqueles que enfrentam dificuldades, especialmente em tempos de desemprego." His pilgrimage is not just personal; it holds emotional significance for him, as he contemplates the struggles of many amid economic challenges.

While much attention is on Datena's transition out of the studio, it's important to acknowledge his health concerns, which have been part of his narrative for some time. Reports indicate he underwent pancreatic tumor removal two decades ago, leading to complications such as severe diabetes and subsequent heart issues requiring stents. With another surgical operation slated for March, this casts light on Datena's candid reflections on his career longevity. Acknowledging his limitations, he remarked, "Não tenho mais condições físicas para continuar por muito tempo," emphasizing his awareness of health's role in his decision to step back from rigorous demands.

This shift to SBT marks another chapter for Datena, who joined the network back in December 2024, leaving behind his previous long-standing role at Band. Despite the changes, he has expressed contentment with the new network environment, even noting he accepted less financial compensation than he was used to. His satisfaction appears rooted not just in monetary factors but rather in the creative freedom he feels at SBT, where the pressure is perceived to be lower.

On the flip side, the murmurs surrounding his relationship with fellow talent Marcão do Povo have sparked media chatter recently. Just prior to the communications from SBT, there were allegations of tension following Datena's and do Povo's experiences during coverage of a recent aviation accident. According to industry sources, they were both called to the studio to quickly cover the incident, but due to scheduling conflicts, Datena was frustrated when it appeared others resisted cooperation, leading some to question his rapport with existing colleagues.

While such backroom narratives gain traction, SBT's public stance reaffirms Datena's commitment to the program upon his return, distinguishing his current absence as routine rather than estrangement. What remains clear, as he prepares for this break, is Datena's clear dedication to his work, family, and faith, as well as to providing support for those less fortunate through the lens of his travels.

Detractors and supporters alike will be attentively observing how Datena integrates his personal commitments with his professional responsibilities during this notable interlude.
