SASSA Releases January 2025 Grant Payment Schedule

Beneficiaries can collect payments starting January 3 as gold cards remain valid beyond December 2023.

Pretoria social grant beneficiaries can start collecting their January payments from tomorrow, as the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released the latest schedule. SASSA also reminds beneficiaries to note the validity extension of their gold cards beyond December 2023.

The payments can be accessed at select supermarkets or directly deposited to bank accounts. Here are the confirmed payment dates for January:

  • Older Persons Grant: Friday, January 3, 2025
  • Disability Grant: Monday, January 6, 2025
  • Child Support and Other Grants: Tuesday, January 7, 2025

SASSA beneficiaries can receive their payments from selected supermarkets, such as Pick n Pay, Boxer, USave merchants, Checkers, and Shoprite. They can use their SASSA card or opt for direct transfers to their bank accounts.

Many South Africans facing financial hardships rely on the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) for this much-needed support. SASSA offers various grants aimed at assisting vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. These grants play a pivotal role within South Africa’s social welfare system, working to alleviate poverty and provide financial relief to those who need it the most.

The assistance extends from emergency aid to regular monthly support, structured according to the specific eligibility requirements and financial benefits of each grant type. Beneficiaries should familiarize themselves with the grants available, which include the Child Support Grant (CSG), Old Age Grant, Disability Grant, Foster Child Grant, Grant-in-Aid, Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant, War Veterans Grant, and Care Dependency Grant.

Last year, during the 2024 Budget Speech to Parliament, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana confirmed the increase of permanent SASSA grants. This increase was affirmed to align with inflation and improve access:

  • An increase of R100 for the old age, war veterans, disability, and care dependency grants, divided as R90 effective from April and R10 effective from October.
  • A R50 increase to the Foster Care Grant.
  • A R20 increase to the Child Support Grant.
  • The Social Relief of Distress Grant will see a R20 increase or 5.7% from April 1.

Currently, around 26 million people across South Africa benefit from social grants, which collectively cost the state approximately R266 billion annually. Beneficiaries are encouraged to reach out to SASSA directly for any inquiries. They can do so through the SASSA Toll-Free Call centre at 0800 60 10 11 or by contacting the Head Office at 012 400 2322. For email communication, inquiries can be sent to [email protected]. Further contact details for SASSA offices are available nationwide.
