Recent armed break-ins and high-speed chases raise safety concerns in the community.

In a series of alarming incidents over the weekend, Saskatoon police responded to multiple reports of armed break-ins, a gunshot, and a high-speed chase, highlighting rising concerns about public safety in the area.

On Friday, April 25, 2025, police were called to the 1500 block of Shannon Crescent in the Holliston Neighbourhood just before noon. Reports indicated that three men had entered a home armed with a firearm and unlawfully confined a woman. Fortunately, the 21-year-old female victim was not physically injured during the ordeal.

As officers arrived at the scene, they observed the three suspects fleeing the residence. All three men, aged 18, 19, and 25, were promptly arrested. They now face serious charges, including assault with a weapon, robbery, unlawful confinement, break and enter, and wearing a disguise with intent. The police noted that this incident is not believed to be random, raising concerns about targeted criminal activity in the area.

Later that same day, at approximately 2 p.m., another incident unfolded in the 3800 block of Miyowahkohtowin Road. Officers responded to reports of a break-in and attempted robbery. A 34-year-old man allegedly entered a home with the intention of stealing bicycles. When confronted by a resident, the suspect reportedly grabbed a nearby knife in a threatening manner. He fled the scene but was located by police in a backyard on 33rd Street West.

The suspect now faces multiple charges, including break and enter, robbery, assault with a weapon, and possession of a dangerous weapon. This incident further underscores the ongoing issues of safety and security within the community.

On Saturday, April 26, 2025, at around 11:40 p.m., police were dispatched to the 100 block of Avenue S South in the Pleasant Hill neighbourhood following reports of a gunshot. Upon arrival, officers discovered evidence indicating that a firearm had been discharged at a residence. Thankfully, the home was occupied at the time, but no injuries were reported. Police are urging anyone with information related to this incident to come forward.

The following day, on Sunday, April 27, 2025, police were involved in a high-speed chase after receiving a report of an attempted theft of a dirt bike. Officers were called to the 10 block of Sturby Place in Saskatoon’s Eastview neighbourhood around 4:15 a.m. According to police, the suspects fled the scene in a Mercedes Benz SUV.

During the pursuit, the vehicle sped through a stop sign and collided with a fire hydrant. The occupants of the SUV exited the vehicle and attempted to evade capture. However, with the assistance of the Saskatoon Police Service Air Support Unit, officers were able to locate and apprehend both individuals.

A 35-year-old woman now faces several charges, including dangerous driving, evading police, possession of methamphetamine, and breaching court-imposed conditions. Meanwhile, a 27-year-old man has been charged with theft over $5,000 and possession of cocaine with the intent to traffic.

In a separate incident, on April 28, 2025, the Edwardsville Police Department responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of North University Drive and New Poag Road around 10:40 a.m. A Dodge Ram commercial truck was struck by a Toyota Rav 4, which is believed to have gone through the intersection without stopping at the four-way stop.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from this accident. Both vehicles were towed from the scene, and the airbags of the Toyota were deployed. Officers on scene managed traffic while ensuring the safety of bystanders and those involved.

These incidents collectively highlight growing concerns about crime and public safety in Saskatoon and surrounding areas. As police continue their investigations, community members are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities.

With the recent spate of violent crimes and reckless behavior on the roads, it is crucial for residents to engage with local law enforcement to foster a safer environment for everyone. The police have reiterated their commitment to protecting the community and ensuring that those responsible for these crimes are brought to justice.
