Samsung TV Plus Expands Streaming Options

Free access to The Lord of the Rings series complements live sports broadcasts.

Samsung TV Plus is taking strides to expand its content offerings, recently streaming the entire first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power to viewers. This strategic move is part of Amazon's push to attract audiences before the premiere of Season 2 on August 29.

The free streaming of The Rings of Power is available for Samsung TV and Galaxy owners across the U.S., Canada, Brazil, the UK, and Germany until August 28. It marks the first time the show’s first season has been offered at no cost, drawing significant interest from viewers who might be catching up before the second season arrives.

Set during the Second Age of Middle-earth, the series dives deep exploring the creation of the Rings of Power and the rise of the dark lord Sauron. It showcases thrilling adventures involving elves, dwarves, and humans as they confront the looming threat of evil.

Samsung TV Plus is also the exclusive destination for the live broadcast of the Hanwha Classic 2024, scheduled from August 22 to August 25. This event, held at the Jade Palace Golf Club, will be part of the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) tour.

This development highlights Samsung's position as the first free and ad-supported TV (FAST) brand to live-broadcast sporting events. Such initiatives aim to bolster the platform's appeal and viewer engagement.

The announcement of streaming the Lord of the Rings series and the forthcoming KLPGA tournament aligns with Samsung's goal of enhancing its content range and drawing more users to its TV Plus service. With nearly 300 million Samsung TV and Galaxy device owners, the platform seeks to provide exciting, diverse content options for viewers.

According to Samsung TV Plus Senior Vice President Salek Brodsky, this expansion is part of the strategy to maximize content offerings and maintain viewer interest. “Nearly 300 million Samsung TV and Galaxy owners will have the opportunity to discover or catch up on this hit series, enjoying free access to live TV channels and popular titles on-demand,” he noted.

This move by Samsung to simultaneously provide high-profile streaming content alongside live sports broadcasting highlights the growing trend of platforms diversifying their offerings. This strategy not only adds value for viewers but also sets the stage for potential advertiser interest, elevitating the service's status within the competitive streaming market.

By making such popular content available for free, Samsung taps directly back to audience needs and behaviors, aiming to turn casual viewers of its platform, like those drawn by The Lord of the Rings, and newly interested sports fans, channel surfers catching the KLPGA event, into regular users. It's all part of their well-thought-out attempt to compete with established streaming services and traditional broadcasting.

Samsung's ability to adapt its offerings to current trends is key to keeping its audience engaged and satisfied. With both literary fantasy and thrilling sporting competitions, there's something for nearly everyone tuning in.

Self-contained as it is, Samsung TV Plus is on track to become not just another television viewing option, but rather, the go-to platform for niche audiences seeking premium content without subscription fees.

Whether viewers are intrigued by cinematic sagas of centuries past or the current excitement of live sports, Samsung TV Plus appears focused on catering to varying tastes. With these initiatives, Samsung is engaging viewers with palpable enthusiasm for both its fantasy and sports content.

This commitment to diversifying content effectively combines the magical allure of high fantasy with the adrenaline rush of live sports, making Samsung TV Plus more appealing than ever. Viewers are certainly curious to see what other surprises the streaming service has up its sleeve.
