Rome Opens Special Days For Electronic Identity Card Renewal

Residents can renew their electronic identity cards on May 10 and 11 with mandatory appointments.

On May 10 and 11, 2025, residents of Rome will have the opportunity to renew their electronic identity cards during a special open day organized by the city's administration. This event aims to facilitate the renewal process, making it easier for citizens to obtain their essential identification documents.

During this weekend, seven municipal offices will be open to assist residents, along with several kiosks located in central areas. Appointments are mandatory and can be booked starting from 9 AM on Friday, May 9, 2025, through the Agenda CIE website of the Ministry of the Interior. This initiative is designed to streamline the application process and reduce wait times for those seeking to renew their identity cards.

The open day will see the municipal registry offices of Municipalities III, VI, VII, VIII, XI, XII, and XV, as well as the release point located at via Petroselli 52, open their doors to the public. Additionally, former Tourist Information Points (ex PIT) at Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore, Piazza Sonnino, and Piazza delle Cinque Lune will also be available to assist residents on both Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, May 10, the following municipal offices will be open:

  • Municipality III: Via Fraccia n. 45, open from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
  • Municipality VI: Via Duilio Cambellotti n. 11, open from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Furthermore, the ex PITs in Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore, Piazza Sonnino, and Piazza delle Cinque Lune will be operational on both Saturday and Sunday. They will be open on Saturday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM and on Sunday from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

To successfully apply for the electronic identity card during the open days, residents must be prepared. They will need to present a few essential items: a passport photo, an electronic payment card, and their old identity document. This requirement ensures that the process runs smoothly and efficiently.

The city of Rome has implemented this open day initiative to address the growing demand for electronic identity cards and to enhance the accessibility of municipal services. By offering extended hours and additional locations, the city aims to accommodate as many residents as possible, making it simpler for them to obtain their identification documents.

As the date approaches, residents are encouraged to make their appointments early, as availability may be limited. The open day represents a significant effort by the local government to engage with citizens and provide essential services in a convenient manner.

This initiative reflects a broader trend within local governments to adapt to the needs of citizens, especially in urban areas where population density can complicate access to services. By leveraging technology and providing flexible options for document renewal, the city is taking steps to ensure that all residents can maintain their identification without undue hassle.

In conclusion, the open day for renewing electronic identity cards in Rome on May 10 and 11 is an important opportunity for residents to secure their essential documents. With several municipal offices and kiosks available, the city is making strides to enhance accessibility and streamline the renewal process for its citizens.
