In a significant display of law enforcement activity, the Romanian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) reported over 4,200 interventions aimed at ensuring citizen safety within a 24-hour period. This proactive approach included 47,447 checks utilizing the eDAC application, designed to prevent and combat potential illegal acts.
According to a statement from the MAI, the primary missions undertaken by its personnel involved preventing and combating crime in various forms, enhancing road safety, providing emergency medical assistance, and overseeing state border control. Specifically, MAI intervened in 4,216 events, which included 2,794 incidents related to public order and 1,422 emergencies.
During this period, law enforcement reported 689 possible crimes. They managed to apprehend 132 perpetrators in the act, committing a total of 139 offenses. Additionally, 18 wanted individuals were located, and preventive measures were enacted for 24 people.
In terms of traffic safety, the eDAC application played a crucial role, with 47,447 checks leading to 48 alerts. A total of 560 drivers were removed from the roads for posing a potential danger to others, resulting in the suspension of their driving licenses. Furthermore, seven individuals were caught driving without a license, and 372 vehicles were halted for not meeting safety standards. The registration certificates for these vehicles were revoked until the necessary issues were resolved.
Border control efforts were robust, with 3,373 border police officers deployed—2,314 focused on surveillance and 764 on control at EU external border crossing points, utilizing 907 mobility means. At these points, 48,446 individuals and 9,704 vehicles were checked upon entry into the country, while 45,525 individuals and 9,377 vehicles were inspected upon exit.
As a result of these checks, 25 foreign nationals were denied entry, and five were turned away upon attempting to leave. In total, 42 crimes were recorded, and 53 contravention sanctions were applied, amounting to 36,922 lei. Additionally, 26 illegal migrants were detected during these operations.
The MAI also reported 1,116 missions dedicated to providing emergency medical assistance, which included 71 fire extinguishing missions and seven extrication operations, resulting in the rescue of five individuals. Moreover, eight aircraft were deployed for aero-medical missions and training flights, successfully saving 13 lives.
On the matter of residency, there are currently 196,052 active temporary protection residence permits, with 23 issued in the last 24 hours. The total occupancy rate of the IGI accommodation centers stands at 12.3%.
In a related effort, police across Romania intervened in over 2,700 citizen requests and uncovered nearly 8,400 contravention facts in the past 24 hours. On April 25, 2025, police organized 447 actions nationwide to prevent antisocial behavior, responding to 2,751 events, 2,291 of which were reported by citizens via the emergency number 112.
During these operations, law enforcement located 30 individuals who were wanted nationally and internationally, taking the necessary legal measures against them. A total of 8,375 contravention sanctions were issued, amounting to 2,960,513 lei.
In the realm of traffic enforcement, police identified 93 traffic-related offenses, retaining 427 driving licenses—95 for speeding and 41 for alcohol-related violations. Additionally, 360 vehicle registration certificates were withdrawn as part of these efforts.
As part of Operation BLOCADA, initiated by the MAI leadership to prevent high-risk situations and maintain a climate of public order and safety, over 3,400 police officers and gendarmes worked in an integrated manner. Their focus was on ensuring public order, preventing violent acts, and combating drug trafficking and usage, while also enhancing road safety.
Throughout this operation, 454 filters were set up, resulting in the inspection of 6,508 vehicles and the identification of 10,323 individuals. The police conducted 3,034 breathalyzer tests and 135 tests to detect drivers under the influence of psychoactive substances. During these checks, 23 traffic offenses were recorded, leading to the retention of 179 driving licenses, including 17 for alcohol violations and 44 for speeding. Additionally, 201 vehicle registration certificates were withdrawn.
This comprehensive approach by the MAI and local police forces highlights their commitment to maintaining public safety and order across Romania.
