Red Nose Day 2025 Marks 40 Years Of Comic Relief

Community engagement and celebrity support build excitement for the upcoming fundraising event.

Red Nose Day 2025 is gearing up for its biggest celebration yet, as it marks the 40th anniversary of the iconic Comic Relief. Scheduled for Friday, March 21, this year promises to be packed with laughter, star power, and much-needed fundraising efforts. The telethon will be broadcast live from Media City UK, Salford, starting at 7 PM BST across BBC One, BBC Two, and iPlayer, and it will feature popular presenters like Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, Alison Hammond, and Rylan.

The spirit of Comic Relief resonates throughout the UK, with participants donning bright red noses, fanciful costumes, and engaging their communities in fundraising activities ranging from bake sales to physical challenges. This year’s fundraising event is particularly special, as Comic Relief has celebrated four decades of impact, raising millions to combat global poverty and support various initiatives.

Among the exciting elements this year, the charity has expanded its merchandise line, bringing back fan-favorite Red Noses from every decade. The collection includes the classic smooth round nose from the 80s, the 90s nose with hands, the face-and-glasses edition from the 2000s, and the beloved "Di-NOSE-saurus" from the 2010s. New to the lineup are the "cupcake nose"—complete with icing and a birthday candle—and a limited edition "Rare Ruby Nose," which is sure to be a collectable gem.

Everywhere you look, local communities are rallying around the cause. At Brampton’s William Howard School, for example, staff members are gearing up for their own fundraising Ironman triathlon on Saturday, March 22. Together, they plan to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and run 26.2 miles. Headteacher Kath Pigdon expressed her excitement, stating, "Every mile we ride brings us closer to making a difference, and I’m proud to be part of this effort." Meanwhile, students at the school will host their fundraising activities on Red Nose Day itself.

Last year, Comic Relief raised an impressive £38 million, indicating the significant impact of donations collected through these events. This fundraising goes directly to support projects aimed at improving lives, including healthcare, education, and alleviating poverty.

Those wishing to contribute to the cause can find the Red Noses available for purchase on Amazon, where they are priced from £2.50 each. Collectors can also find bulk packages, including schools multipacks containing 30 noses, priced at £60. Select charity shops and retailers, such as Sainsbury's and TkMaxx, have also teamed up for this event, selling noses, t-shirts, and other merchandise.

Longtime supporters like Aisling Bea, Anneka Rice, and Sir Tony Robinson have lent their star power to encourage public participation. "It’s all about having fun and contributing to worthy causes," said Martin Kemp, who highlighted the joy these nose-themed fundraisers bring to families. "With Red Nose Day just around the corner, make sure you grab your nose and get involved!"

On the day of the event, various communities will showcase their creativity and involvement through themed dress-ups, comedy performances, and local festivities all aimed at raising funds and awareness for those most affected by poverty.

To engage with Comic Relief this year, individuals are encouraged to share their fundraising stories and Red Nose Day pictures on social media, which not only spreads the word but also inspires others to take part. The charity is encouraging participants to express their creativity, making this event not only meaningful but also entertaining.

With the goal of fostering joy and laughter, Red Nose Day serves as key evidence of how solidarity can address pressing issues. Since its inception by Lenny Henry and Richard Curtis in 1985, the charity has united countless individuals and communities across the UK.

The countdown to Red Nose Day 2025 is officially on. Whether through school initiatives, triathlons, or wearing the iconic red nose, one thing is clear: fun, fundraising, and camaraderie will once again fill the air on March 21. So grab your nose, engage with your community, and take part in this cherished tradition.
