PT Taru Martani has successfully marked its presence on the international stage by exporting 41 cartons of tembakau iris (TIS) to Japan. This operation, facilitated by Bea Cukai Yogyakarta, took place on March 5, 2025, and highlighted both the company’s growing footprint and the supportive role of customs authorities during the export process.
According to Riri Riani, the Kepala Seksi Penyuluhan dan Layanan Informasi at Bea Cukai Yogyakarta, this export not only reflects the capabilities of PT Taru Martani but also speaks volumes about Indonesia’s potential within the global tobacco market. The 41 cartons consisted of 7,170 packs distributed among three of the company's leading brands: Violin, Virgin, and Royal Bourbon. The total export value was reported at USD 7,912.77, which is over Rp 125 million.
The export received the advantage of not having excise duties collected, as stipulated under Article 8 of Law No. 39 of 2007 on Excise. This law allows for such exemptions on tobacco products when exported, creating favorable conditions for local producers seeking international markets.
During the export process, customs officials performed necessary inspections to verify compliance with regulatory requirements, ensuring all documentation was properly arranged. This diligence is part of the procedure for granting non-collection of excise duties, as emphasized by Riri Riani. "Fasilitas tidak dipungut cukai untuk ekspor tembakau iris ini akan mendukung peningkatan ekspor Indonesia, terutama di sektor industri tembakau yang memiliki potensi besar di pasar internasional," Riri remarked.
After confirming everything is satisfactory, the goods were sealed and dispatched to Tanjung Emas Port, Semarang, where they were prepared for shipment to Japan.
This commitment from Bea Cukai Yogyakarta is integral to helping local industries compete effectively on the global stage. The successful export of tembakau iris not only showcases PT Taru Martani’s growth but also the potential for Indonesian tobacco products abroad. With support from customs and favorable export regulations, the company is poised to explore even wider markets.
PT Taru Martani's latest achievement is indicative of the broader trends seen within Indonesia's industrial sector, particularly the tobacco industry, which has significant growth potential. Through strategic partnerships and adherence to regulations, local companies are carving out niches for themselves internationally.
Going forward, the collaboration between industries like PT Taru Martani and government bodies like Bea Cukai will likely play a pivotal role, fostering conditions conducive to increased exports. The growing interest and support for the tobacco sector resonate with the government’s vision of enhancing the domestic economy through periodic exports.
Overall, this successful export serves not only as a business triumph for PT Taru Martani but also as confirmation of Indonesia’s ability to compete within the international tobacco market. With continued support from customs and sustained efforts from local producers, the path to success looks promising for Indonesia's tobacco exports.
