Crustacean diverted from dinner plate to aquarium inspires conservation conversations

A rare orange lobster, affectionately named Crush, recently found a new home at the Denver Downtown Aquarium after being rescued from a shipment bound for a Red Lobster restaurant in Pueblo, Colorado.

The incredible journey of Crush began on Friday when a watchful employee at the restaurant noticed this unusual crustacean while unloading the shipment. The striking hue of the lobster stood out in contrast to its peers, as most lobsters are typically dark blue or greenish-brown when alive. As a homage to the Denver Broncos, Crush was named after the legendary Orange Crush defense team that graced the field from 1976 to 1986. The restaurant manager took it upon themselves to ensure that this lobster would not become the main course, transporting Crush to the Denver Downtown Aquarium on Wednesday.

Upon arrival, Crush will undergo a mandatory 30-day quarantine period, a standard protocol for new inhabitants of the aquarium.
