Querétaro Weather Alert: Rain And Winds Expected This Week

Residents prepare for fluctuated temperatures and potential flooding as storms approach Querétaro.

Querétaro is bracing for fluctuated weather conditions as the National Meteorological Service (SMN) of Mexico issues alerts for intense rain and winds for February 18, 2025. The region is projected to experience significant rainfall varying from 5 to 25 mm, particularly over metropolitan and mountainous areas, alongside electrical discharges and the potential for hail.

According to the SMN, Querétaro is not isolated from the larger weather system affecting various states, with nearby areas like Guanajuato, Puebla, and Hidalgo also facing similar forecasts. Residents are advised to remain vigilant as the intense rains could lead to rising river levels and flash floods.

The forecast for Querétaro highlights the expected temperature ranges throughout the day, indicating a minimum of 12°C and reaching highs of around 28°C. This expected temperature fluctuation signifies the variability of the climate—cold mornings transitioning to warmer afternoons. Winds are anticipated to reach speeds of 15 to 25 km/h, with gusts possibly hitting up to 60 km/h. This can lead to sand and dust storms, particularly affecting visibility on the roads.

"The arrival of the cold front No. 28 is contributing to these shifts, bringing colder temperatures and strong winds," said Miguel Gallardo, regional meteorologist. This front is also tracking across the Gulf of Mexico, interacting with low-pressure areas which are expected to intensify rainfall across several locations.

Querétaro's weather is likely to remain largely overcast, especially leading up to Thursday, February 19, when higher chances of light rain loom, particularly during late afternoon and evening hours. The day is expected to be predominantly cloudy with sporadic light drizzle being reported.

Looking beyond Querétaro, the SMN warns of severe conditions across the country. Certain states such as Durango and Chihuahua are already feeling the effects, with temperatures dropping as low as -5°C, especially at high elevations. Strenuous winds of up to 70 km/h have been noted across Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, showcasing the diverse impact of the cold front as it sweeps through Mexico.

"We recommend taking precautions against the fierce winds and keeping yourself informed about the developments of the climate,” added Gallardo. The expected rough weather also raises concerns of obstructed transport and downed trees, with warnings issued for severely impacted areas.

On February 19, early forecasts suggest temperatures will range between 11°C and 24°C for Querétaro, with only slight chances of rainfall. The overall conditions will be mostly favorable, allowing residents to experience clear skies intermixed with clouds. It is advised to dress comfortably with light layers, as the weather can shift beautifully from cool mornings to slightly warmer afternoons.

Local authorities continue to urge citizens to stay updated through official sources like the SMN and local news outlets. Monitoring weather conditions is especially important during this season, when weather patterns can change drastically and unexpectedly.

Precautionary advice for outdoor activities includes carrying weather-appropriate clothing and supplies at all times. Those who plan to venture outside this week are encouraged to remain alert for developing weather systems, especially with the presence of storms and the likelihood of flooding.

Residents of Querétaro are advised to stay prepared for the upcoming weather impacts. Continuous updates through trusted news outlets will deliver timely forecasts to keep the public informed and safe as the weather evolves.
