Public Transport To Adjust Hours For Benito Juárez's Birthday

Special operating times announced to commemorate national holiday and maintain public services.

The Secretariat of Mobility (Semovi) has announced special operating hours for various public transport services on Monday, March 17, 2025. The adjustments to schedules coincide with the commemoration of the Natalicio de Benito Juárez García, one of Mexico's most prominent historical figures.

On March 17, the Sistema de Transporte Colectivo (STC) Metro will be operational from 7:00 AM to midnight. The Metrobús, which serves numerous areas of Mexico City, will run from 5:00 AM until midnight, enabling citizens to travel freely throughout the day.

For those relying on the Red de Transporte de Pasajeros (RTP) and the Trolebús, services will be available starting from 6:00 AM, with the Trolebús concluding operations at 11:30 PM. Notably, the Elevated Trolebús and the Aztecas Trolebús will begin their operations slightly earlier, at 5:00 AM and 5:30 AM, ceasing their service at midnight and 11:30 PM respectively.

The Tren Ligero will maintain its schedule from 7:00 AM to 11:30 PM, and the Cablebús will operate from 7:00 AM until 11:00 PM—these services providing valuable links to the city’s transportation network.

For riders of the Metro Line 1 Support Service, they can expect the service to function from 7:00 AM to midnight. Meanwhile, ECOBICI services—which include bike-sharing options—will be available from 5:00 AM to 12:30 AM on the same day. It is worth noting, though, the Customer Service Centers will remain closed. Biciestacionamientos, or bike parking, will operate from 7:00 AM to midnight.

On this holiday, parking meters and vehicular control and licensing modules managed by Semovi will not be operational, allowing citizens ease of access and freedom from added burdens during this public holiday.

Semovi has made it clear to users of the Metro, Cablebús, and Tren Ligero, bicycles will be permitted on these transport systems. The carrying of bicycles onto the Metrobús, Trolebús, and RTP will depend on the availability of space within the vehicles.

Adding to the occasion, on March 14, 2025, the Secretariat of Administration announced on behalf of the Government of Morelos, led by Jorge Salazar Acosta, the suspension of work activities across both centralized and decentralized public administration on March 17. This decision aligns with regulations set forth by the Federal Labor Law which dictates the interruption of service on this date.

Jorge Salazar Acosta highlighted the need for certain departments with functions impacting citizen services to prepare for this closure by establishing guards to continue providing necessary services, ensuring public needs are still met during this festive period.

He stated, "La tierra que nos une," emphasizing the Government's priority of not just upholding workers' rights but also maintaining continuous public service during holiday days.

Both the formal declarations from Semovi on transport services and the pronouncement from the Government of Morelos reflect the unity of the nation as it honors such a significant historical figure as Benito Juárez García. Commemorations on this date serve not only as tributes but also as reminders of the values and principles he championed throughout his lifetime.

Citizens across Mexico City and Morelos are expected to take advantage of this well-planned operation of public services, alongside remembering the contributions of one of Mexico’s most revered leaders. The adjustments put forth demonstrate the government’s commitment to maintaining accessibility, enhancing celebrations honoring historical significance, and ensuring civic enjoyment of the day.
