Puck Moonen And Bas Tietema Triumph At Turbo Cross Diegem

The lively second edition of the Turbo Cross brought together influencers and athletes for fun-filled competition.

The excitement of the Turbo Cross lit up Diegem this past weekend as the duo of Puck Moonen and Bas Tietema claimed victory during the second edition of this unconventional race. Set against the scenic backdrop of the Superprestige course, the event transformed the typical cycling competition format, blending humor and entertainment with sporting spirit.

After its initiation last year by popular YouTuber Average Rob, the Turbo Cross has quickly gained traction, bringing together celebrities, influencers, and even professional athletes. This year's event featured teams of two competing against each other, with one member starting the race and passing the baton or, more interestingly, a glowing bracelet to their partner to complete the challenge. With laughter and playful rivalries filling the air, the event upheld the motto: participating is more important than winning.

The Turbo Cross format was slightly modified this time, featuring relay-style racing where the female competitors opened the event, followed by their male counterparts. Amidst live music, strobe lights, and various themed obstacles—including the infamous "Wall of Death" and other obstacles like large fans—participants showcased not only their competitive spirit but also their resilience and humor.

Moonen had set the pace early on, showing exceptional energy and speed. While she initially chased ex-cyclist Suzanne Verhoeven, it was Tietema who took charge during the men's race. "I just went for it as soon as I hit the course," he remarked after his performance. It was clear they were the team to beat as they sped away from the rest.

On the verge of competing were other talented teams, including Samuel De Graef, alongside Lore Bruggeman, who secured second place, and Josse Wester paired with Senne Knaven who finished third. With their combined efforts, Moonen and Tietema left no doubt they were the champions of this festive competition.

Post-race, Tietema shared his admiration for the event's unique atmosphere, stating, "This is only the second edition, and to see how much fun it is, even as just something lighter between other races, is phenomenal. The turnout speaks volumes about how entertaining and engaging this event has become for everyone, participants and spectators alike."

Notably, the absence of heavyweights such as world champions Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert, who often dominate the power circuits, allowed the Turbo Cross to shine brightly without the intense focus on professional outcomes. Instead, it highlighted the collective joy of camaraderie and laughter.

Taking part alongside Tietema and Moonen were various familiar faces from different areas—ranging from sports to entertainment—showing the event's inclusivity. The likes of Enzo Knol and ACID lent their charisma to the race, keeping the audience enthralled with laughs and thrills. ACID was particularly entertaining, frequently falling but never failing to lift the spirits of the crowd with gestures and high-fives. His enthusiasm was infectious, demonstrating how race participation was about fun rather than just the finish line.

The audience surged with love for their favorites; they cheered for competitive spirit combined with humor and fun antics. It was predictable to see amateur slips and falls during the obstacles placed around the track, creating unpredictable moments of hilarity.

Overall, the Turbo Cross event proved to be more than just racing; it encapsulated the joy of community and shared experience, where the line between social media influencer and competitive athlete blurred delightfully. It was not just about the race winners but about creating memorable moments together.

The evening concluded with fans already buzzing about what thrilling experiences would come next year, as the Turbo Cross continues to position itself as one of the year's must-attend events. "This race really feels like it gets bigger and more vibrant each year—we can't wait for what's coming next!" Moonen mused, reflecting the sentiments shared by everyone involved.
