Prashant Koratkar Allegedly Flees To Dubai Amidst Outrage

Political figures criticize police effectiveness as tensions rise over recent threats and riots

In Maharashtra, the saga of Prashant Koratkar, a controversial figure, takes a new twist as reports emerge of his alleged escape to Dubai, raising serious questions about police efficiency and governmental oversight. This development follows a series of inflammatory statements made by Koratkar against revered historical figures, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, and threats issued to historian Indrajit Sawant.

On March 22, 2025, amidst growing public concern, politicians Amol Mitkari and Sushma Andhare criticized the government for failing to apprehend Koratkar. During a press interaction, Mitkari, a member of the NCP, condemned the exodus, stating that it marked a significant failure of both the Mumbai police and the home department. “This highlights the inefficiency of the government. It is unacceptable that a person who has made threats against prominent individuals can escape police custody, especially under such high-profile circumstances,” Mitkari expressed.

Koratkar's alleged threats against Sawant and disparaging comments about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj have sparked widespread outrage. The buzzing backdrop of the Nagpur riots, which occurred recently, has also transformed the situation, with discussions hinting at police complicity or negligence in letting Koratkar flee. “The tragedy is that those who should be held accountable are not only avoiding responsibility but are apparently aiding in his escape,” noted Andhare, who is also affiliated with the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray).

As word spread regarding Koratkar's supposed departure to Dubai, photos attributed to him emerged on social media, leading speculators to suggest that he had flown out due to fears of arrest. Yet, Andhare countered this narrative, asserting that reports of Koratkar’s flight were misleading. She insisted, “The photos being circulated are old. They are from November 2023, and it seems that the report of his fleeing to Dubai is a diversionary tactic by the government.”

In the chaos of conflicting information, one undeniable fact remains: Koratkar has not been captured, raising serious concerns about the capabilities of the police forces. Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, previously described Koratkar as a mere “chillar,” or a small player, in the ongoing socio-political drama. Nevertheless, this “chillar” seems to have evaded law enforcement, provoking a fierce backlash against the government.

The recent series of events following the riots, coupled with Koratkar's public statements, continue to fuel political tensions. Mitkari articulated this sentiment, stating, “This kind of immunity for Koratkar, coupled with the government’s failure to act on such serious charges, raises profound questions about the values we hold in our state.”

Following the riots in Nagpur, which were fueled by Koratkar's actions, the police launched an extensive search. However, despite their efforts, comments from political leaders indicate that Koratkar remains on the run. Just days after his alleged threats against Indrajit Sawant, it seemed Koratkar was already planning his escape. Reports suggest he had booked a flight ticket to Indore even before the turmoil erupted. Ultimately, he evaded capture by taking a route through Kolkata before heading to Dubai, highlighting what many see as a blatant failure of police operations.

While the political atmosphere continues to heat up, Andhare’s comments on the government's inadequacies resonate with many citizens: “What more will it take for the government to act? Koratkar’s threats should not go unanswered, and the fact that he has slipped through the cracks poses a huge risk to our social fabric. When individuals can make such threats and evade justice so easily, it diminishes public trust in our system.”

In response to the fallout from Koratkar's actions, the Nagpur police are under pressure as citizens demand accountability for their shortcomings in this case. Non-stop public discourse underscores the urgent need for decisive action as questions continue to arise about the possible complicity within police ranks that might have allowed Koratkar’s escape, along with the current government's lack of transparency in handling such delicate issues.

With the Maharashtra Assembly looking ahead at critical discussions regarding public safety and political accountability, fingers are pointed firmly at those in power. Andhare vocalized her frustration regarding how the rising tensions in the legislative assembly over other issues appear to overshadow urgent calls for accountability: “While we stand in the assembly and discuss sensational topics, critical issues impacting our society are ignored. Our farmer struggles, education, and the water crisis are instrumental, yet they fail to make headlines.”

The backdrop of Koratkar’s case unfolds a larger theme of neglect and unresolved issues facing Maharashtra. There exist daily struggles about health, water, education, and the overall quality of life for citizens, factors being overshadowed by the dramatic political fallout linked to Koratkar. Conclusively, many citizens are left pondering as to whether the state’s leadership is up to the task of ensuring justice and public safety in light of these pressing concerns.

As Maharashtra processes the implications of Koratkar’s escape and the subsequent political fallout, residents await informed and responsible action from those in power. Can the government regain the public’s trust as it grapples with these overarching challenges and conflicts? Only time will tell.
