Monarchs join strong field as ACC teams aim for top honors at NC State's tournament.

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion women's golf is gearing up to compete in the City of Oaks Collegiate tournament hosted by NC State in Raleigh, North Carolina. The tournament, set to take place from March 21 to 22, 2025, marks an exciting opportunity for the Monarchs as they look to showcase their talent in a competitive field.

The tournament is designed as a two-day event, starting with 36 holes of continuous play on Friday, followed by the final 18 holes on Saturday. The opening round will kick off with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on March 21, allowing players to get their rounds underway early. On Saturday, teams will also begin at 8:30 a.m., with tee times available from both the first and tenth holes.

Lonnie Poole Golf Course, where the tournament will be held, boasts a par of 72 and spans a total of 6,181 yards. This challenging course presents a formidable test for the participating teams, as they vie for top honors among a competitive lineup of 17 schools.

Among the teams participating, Old Dominion will face stiff competition from schools such as Boston College, NC State, and Marshall, as well as other notable programs like East Carolina and Georgetown. This year’s City of Oaks Collegiate will feature a total of 17 teams: App State, Boston College, Campbell, Central Michigan, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Elon, Georgetown, James Madison, Marshall, NC State, UNCG, Old Dominion, Richmond, Rutgers, and Western Carolina.

The Monarchs will compete with a strong lineup that includes Puneet Bajwa, Barbara Car, Lucia Gonzalez, Alina Shchepteva, and Mariana Arronte. Additionally, Carley Rudolf will compete as an individual. Their participation not only embodies the spirit of the Old Dominion women's golf program but also highlights the team's determination to excel in a nationally recognized tournament.

In addition to Old Dominion’s participation in the City of Oaks Collegiate, other schools from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) are also making headlines. The ACC will have a significant presence this weekend, with seven teams, including Boston College and NC State, competing in the same tournament.

Recently, Wake Forest women’s golf achieved remarkable success at The Old Barnwell Derby Match Play in Aiken, South Carolina, where they secured their second team title of the season. This was a significant triumph as the team went 3-0 in the match play format, defeating Auburn (3-2), Florida State (3.5-1.5), and South Carolina (3-2). Since their impressive run during the 2023 National Championship, Wake Forest now boasts a stellar 16-2 record in match play competition, underscoring their status as a formidable contender in women’s golf.

This upcoming weekend also sees Florida State hosting the Florida State Match Up in Tallahassee, Florida. The tournament will provide additional opportunities for ACC teams to showcase their skills and further establish their presence in the national rankings. Following the City of Oaks Collegiate, Notre Dame is set to head to the Pinetree Intercollegiate in Kennesaw, Georgia on March 24, while SMU, Stanford, and Wake Forest will travel to the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate Spring Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas, also starting March 24.

The latest Scoreboard rankings reveal that the ACC has six teams placed within the top 25, reflecting the strength and depth of the conference. Among these, Stanford is ranked at No. 1, followed closely by Florida State at No. 7 and Wake Forest at No. 9. A total of eight individual players from the ACC can be found in the top 25, with six of them securing positions in the top 10. Notably, Stanford’s Meja Örtengren is ranked No. 4, Paula Martín Sampedro at No. 7, and Megha Ganne at No. 9.

Wake Forest’s distinct achievements in match play this season and the strong representation of ACC teams in upcoming tournaments paint a promising picture for the landscape of women’s college golf. As Old Dominion prepares to make its mark in Raleigh, the competition is expected to be fierce and exhilarating.

This weekend's events are crucial not only for player development and team cohesion but also for strengthening the broader narrative of women’s golf within collegiate athletics. The performances at the City of Oaks Collegiate could help elevate the profile of participating teams and players as they prepare for the forthcoming ACC Women’s Golf Championship, which is slated to be held from April 16 to 19 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.

As the teams head into this competitive weekend, the excitement around women’s collegiate golf continues to build, and the City of Oaks Collegiate promises to be a thrilling chapter in the 2024-25 season.
