A large fire broke out Saturday night at a two-story residence on Tarpon Pond Road in Charleston Landing, North Myrtle Beach, displacing its occupants but thankfully causing no injuries. According to North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue, crews arrived on the scene just before 8 p.m. to find the house engulfed in flames, prompting neighbors to step in and assist the residents until fire crews took over.
Upon arrival, firefighters quickly recognized the situation’s urgency with significant fire extension noted primarily in the attic and the compromised top floor structure. The presence of rapidly spreading flames led to the transmission of a second alarm for additional units to aid with the fire suppression efforts.
"Crews worked well in coordinating this challenging fire due to a rapidly spreading fire and limited access from the inside due to partial collapse of the floor on the upper level," North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue reported on their Facebook page. These efforts required the team to shift from fighting the fire from inside the structure to executing operations from outside, especially as part of the upper floor had collapsed under the fire’s intensity.
Once firefighters got the situation under control, they moved to search both floors for occupants, ensuring safety first and foremost. Initial evaluations by medics revealed all occupants were uninjured but had been taken to local hospitals for precautionary evaluations afterwards.
Tragically, materials and possessions were lost inside the home, but emergency crews managed to rescue the family’s pet dog from the second floor unharmed, highlighting the teamwork and vigilance of the responders on site.
North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue also thanked neighboring fire departments and law enforcement for their contributions: Horry County Fire Rescue, the Myrtle Beach Fire Department, and the North Myrtle Beach Police assisted throughout the complex firefighting operation.
Fire crews remained on location monitoring for any remaining hot spots until daylight, indicating the potential for re-ignition were handled seriously and with care. The scene was reported to be secure shortly after midnight, but the overtime crew’s vigilance is part of protocol to safeguard the neighborhood.
At present, the cause of the fire is still under investigation, remaindering as more details emerge surrounding this alarming incident. Residents have been assured of support as evaluations and safeguarding continue.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of preparedness and community response amid emergencies—showing solidarity not just among firefighters and rescue units, but also neighbors who rallied together to assist those affected before authorities arrived.
