Nijmegen Four Day Marches Registration Opens To All Walkers

The largest multi-day walking event kicks off registration as thousands prepare to participate.

Registration for the 107th edition of the Nijmegen Four Day Marches officially opens on Monday, welcoming walkers from around the world. Starting at 10 AM, 45,000 spots will be available, but this year’s registration process is set to take place over two distinct periods.

The first phase runs until March 7 and is exclusively available to those who have participated at least once between 2005 and 2024, alongside groups of civilians and youths born between 2007 and 2013. This structure aims to create inclusivity for previous participants and engage younger generations.

Following this initial phase, the second round opens on March 10 for all other interested participants, concluding on June 13. Each year, the demand for these slots surpasses the available spots, and often they are exhausted well before the listed deadlines. “But we have never encountered all tickets being sold out during the first period,” noted a spokesperson for the event.

This year, the Nijmegen Four Day Marches will take place from July 15 to July 18. The registration fee has been set at 120 euros, marking a 4.35% increase compared to the previous year.

The Four Day Marches are celebrated not only for their scale but also for their spirit. They bring together thousands of people who enjoy the challenge of walking over four consecutive days through scenic routes, promoting health and community engagement.

Last year’s event saw significant interest, with the preparation program for debutants dubbed 'Via Vierdaagse' selling out within hours. This year's details follow the same trend, indicating the continued popularity of the event, as more people discover the joy of long-distance walking.

Many participants prepare intensively, setting personal goals and training for months to be ready, which adds to the excitement and sense of achievement during the event.

Throughout its history, the Nijmegen Four Day Marches have become more than just a physical challenge; they represent resilience and camaraderie. Participants come not just from the Netherlands but from all over the globe, creating a rich cultural exchange.

With the anticipation of another successful year, the event hopes to maintain its storied legacy attracting both returning veterans and fresh faces eager to experience the event.

This year’s marching routes promise to showcase some of the Netherlands’ most beautiful landscapes, reinforcing why the marches have such enduring popularity. The Four Day Marches stand out not only as a vast sporting event but as a celebration of unity among participants from different backgrounds.

One of the unique aspects of the Nijmegen Four Day Marches is the festival atmosphere. Various activities and entertainment options abound, making it as much about the experience as it is about the challenge of walking.

Participants are encouraged to share their journeys and training experiences, fostering community online and offline. Whether through social media or local groups, the sense of belonging is palpable.

With excitement building for July, potential walkers are urged to act quickly as spots tend to fill up at remarkable speed. The beauty of the event lies not just in the competition but also in the shared experiences of all who take part.

Potential participants are reminded to check their eligibility and prepare their registrations as they look forward to not just walking but forging lasting memories. The air will be filled with the spirit of perseverance as walkers of all ages line up to begin their journeys through the picturesque Netherlands.

This year’s event symbolizes hope and renewal as communities come together once again, savoring the joys of walking and the beauty of companionship.
