Newcastle And Hunter Region Prepare For Anzac Day 2025

Communities will gather for dawn services and marches to honor veterans and those who served in wars.

On April 25, 2025, communities across Newcastle and the Hunter region will come together to commemorate Anzac Day, honoring the sacrifices made by those who served in wars. The day will feature a series of dawn services, parades, and memorial events, reflecting the deep respect and gratitude held for veterans and active servicemen alike.

In Aberdare, the dawn service will kick off at 5:40 AM at the memorial in Moray Street. Following this, participants will gather at Bedford Street at 8:30 AM for a march leading to the main service at the Aberdeen RSL and Citizens Club at 9:30 AM. Similarly, Abermain will see a march from the corner of Bathurst Street and Cessnock Road at 8:30 AM, culminating in a service at the Jeffries Park Cenotaph.

Adamstown will host a service at 8:30 AM at the WWI Memorial located at 282 Brunker Road, but notably, there will be no march this year. Meanwhile, the Cooks Hill Surf Club will welcome attendees for a service at 7:30 AM, with an assembly at 7:15 AM to join the flag party.

Belmont’s schedule includes a march at 9:45 AM from High Street, followed by a service at Cullen Park at 10:00 AM. Over in Broke, the dawn service at the Broke War Memorial will start at 5:45 AM, with a main service planned for 10:00 AM.

In Carrington, bagpipes will set the tone from 5:30 AM at Carrington Bowlo, leading into a service featuring a welcome address, a serviceman's speech, and performances by local school children. The day will also include a children’s disco from 1 to 4 PM.

Cessnock will hold its dawn service at 5:45 AM at the Cessnock War Memorial, followed by a ticketed Gunfire Breakfast at the Leagues Club. The main service will take place in the TAFE grounds at 11:35 AM after a march from Vincent Street Kitchen + Bar to the cenotaph at 11:00 AM.

Charlestown’s main service will occur at the cenotaph in Lions Park at 11:00 AM, with a special march for children planned within the park. Meanwhile, Clarence Town will commence its march at 5:30 AM from the Clarence Town Bowling Club.

Dora Creek will host a dawn service at Neville Thompson Oval at 6:00 AM, followed by a Gunfire Breakfast at 6:45 AM at the Dora Creek Workers Club. A march will take place at 9:00 AM, with a service to follow at 9:40 AM.

In Denman, the dawn service will commence at 6:00 AM on Paxton Street, with breakfast available at the RSL club for a small fee. The main service will be conducted at 12:15 PM at Memorial Park after a march starting at 11:50 AM.

Dungog will begin its day with a dawn service at 5:30 AM at the cenotaph located at the corner of Brown and Lord streets, followed by a march at 10:30 AM to the cenotaph, where the main service will take place at 10:45 AM.

East Maitland will see participants forming up on George Street at 5:20 AM for a march to the cenotaph in William Street, where the dawn service will commence at 5:30 AM. A second march is scheduled for 9:15 AM, leading into the main service at 9:30 AM.

Greta will host its dawn service at 5:30 AM at the Greta Memorial cenotaph, with a free Gunfire Breakfast following in the old Greta courthouse. A march at 9:30 AM will proceed from the corner of Nelson Street and New England Highway to the cenotaph for the service at 10:00 AM.

Gresford’s march will begin at 10:30 AM from Gresford Rural Garage, forming up in front of the School of Arts on Park Street for the service. In Karuah, the march will start from Malcolm Road to Tarean Road Memorial Park at 5:50 AM, followed by a dawn service at 6:00 AM.

Kearsley will form up at the tennis courts at 5:20 AM and march to the remembrance garden for a dawn service at 5:30 AM, with a barbecue breakfast to follow at the hall. Maitland RSL Sub Branch will host a dawn service at 5:30 AM at the WWI cenotaph in Maitland Park, with the main service commencing at 10:30 AM.

Medowie’s schedule includes a march from Bull N Bush down Ferodale Road at 5:30 AM, leading to a service at 6:00 AM at the memorial. Merewether will hold a dawn service at the Mitchell Park Memorial Gates at 7:00 AM.

Marches and services will continue throughout the day in locations like Muswellbrook, Newcastle, and Scone, each honoring the legacy of those who served. For instance, Newcastle's dawn service will take place at Camp Shortland from 5:00 AM to 6:00 AM, featuring a four-gun salute for the fallen, followed by a march stepping off at 9:15 AM.

As communities across the Riverina also prepare to remember, Wagga will hold its dawn service at the cenotaph at 5:30 AM, followed by a series of events including a breakfast at the RSL Club and a main march at 10:00 AM. Similar services are planned in towns like Albury, Ardlethan, and Gundagai, ensuring that the spirit of Anzac Day is felt widely.

With events scheduled from dawn until dusk, Anzac Day 2025 promises to unite communities in remembrance, reflection, and respect for the sacrifices made by so many.
