New Japanese Drama Serves Up Flavorful Food Adventures

Japanese drama is experiencing a culinary twist as the new series directed by Kenji Yoshimi, known for his previous work on the 'Kodoku no Gourmet' series, is set to take viewers on a flavorful journey.

The drama narrates the adventures of three uniquely characterized individuals who operate a spice curry food truck that travels across various locations. This engaging setup not only showcases mouthwatering dishes but also highlights the interactions and dynamics of the characters.

In the series, Hiroki Honda plays Kitano Yoki, described as a 'listless driver.' Filming for the drama included intense cooking scenes that proved to be quite challenging for the actors. Okuno shared, "We filmed cooking scenes that required up to 100 takes in a single day," signifying the level of effort the cast put into authenticating the culinary experience.

The production team employed a unique shooting style, which kept the actors confined to the food truck for extended periods. This unique setting created an intimate atmosphere for character development but also logistical challenges. Okuno admitted, "The food truck was cramped, so during filming, the camera crew often had to squeeze around us. I think it’s the production and lighting teams who had a more difficult time in those crammed spaces than we did!"

Adding to the authenticity, a special dish called 'Cardamom-scented leek and duck keema curry' was introduced to the media during a press event. The dish, accompanied by a side of 'Kuroi Chigo Marine,' uses specialty leeks known as 'Honenegi' from Kashiwa City in Chiba Prefecture, truly highlighting local culinary gems.

Additionally, the featured curry will feature prominently in the first episode, promising viewers an enticing visual and gustatory experience right from the get-go. The introduction of local delicacies is part of a trend in Japanese dramas, where food isn't just sustenance but a conduit for storylines and character relationships.
