Nankoku City and Kochi Sun Sun TV have signed an agreement to enhance cooperation in disaster response, particularly concerning large-scale disasters like the Nankai Trough earthquake.
The agreement signing took place on March 25, 2025, with notable attendees including Nankoku Mayor Kozo Hirayama and Kochi Sun Sun TV President Yosuke Torii, along with five other representatives from both parties.
With Nankoku City anticipating a maximum tsunami height of 16 meters in the event of a Nankai Trough earthquake, the agreement outlines critical measures for effective communication during disasters.
Nankoku City will actively provide information to Kochi Sun Sun TV during such events, to the extent that it is feasible. This includes crucial operational assistance to keep the public informed.
Kochi Sun Sun TV, in turn, will be responsible for relaying vital information regarding airport camera footage and details about city evacuation centers. The collaboration aims to ensure residents remain well-informed and safe in case of emergencies.
To further solidify this partnership, Kochi Sun Sun TV will establish a disaster prevention base, named “Nankoku Base,” in the city. This facility will not only help maintain broadcasting capabilities during significant disasters but will also serve as a training ground for conducting drills and preparing for various emergency scenarios.
The signing of this agreement highlights the importance of community-based preparedness and the proactive steps being taken to safeguard citizens.
As Kochi Sun Sun TV continues to work toward enhancing its disaster readiness, residents of Nankoku City will benefit from improved access to critical information and resources. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in disaster management and response efforts in the region.
