Nakamura Shichinosuke Announces Marriage To Non-Celebrity

The acclaimed Kabuki actor shares personal news while continuing his artistic journey with upcoming performances.

Kabuki actor Nakamura Shichinosuke II, aged 41, announced his marriage on April 18, 2025, through his agency, Fawn Wood. His partner is described as a non-celebrity, marking a significant personal milestone for the celebrated performer.

In a heartfelt statement, Nakamura expressed, "I am very sorry to report this personal matter, but I am marrying someone I have been dating for a long time. We are immature, but please continue to guide and encourage us." His candor reflects the humility that has endeared him to fans throughout his career.

Nakamura Shichinosuke, born in Tokyo in 1983, is the second son of the late Nakamura Kanzaburo XVIII, who passed away in 2012. He began his illustrious career in Kabuki theater at the young age of three, making his debut in 1986 as Ushiwakamaru in the production "Yoshitsune and the Thousand Cherry Trees." Just a year later, he adopted the stage name Nakamura Shichinosuke II, performing alongside his older brother, Nakamura Kantaro II, now known as Kanzaburo VI.

Over the years, Nakamura has become a prominent figure in the world of Kabuki, known for his versatility and ability to portray a wide range of characters. His performances span from classical works to contemporary pieces inspired by manga. In 1988, he showcased his talent in the NHK Taiga drama "Takeda Shingen," portraying Taro, the eldest son of Shingen. This role was followed by another in the 1999 Taiga drama "Genroku Ryoran," where he played Oishi Chikara, the son of Oishi Kuranosuke.

His contributions to the arts extend beyond the stage. In 2001, Nakamura made his first appearance in the New Year Asakusa Kabuki, further solidifying his place in the cultural landscape. He also made a notable film debut in 2003, playing Emperor Meiji in the Hollywood film "The Last Samurai," showcasing his talent on an international stage.

As Nakamura prepares for his upcoming wedding, he has plans to perform in several productions. He will take the stage in the "Nakamura Kanzaburo Nakamura Shichinosuke New Green Kabuki Special Performance 2025," which begins on May 3, 2025, and will be held at various locations across Japan. Following this, he will appear in the "June Hakataza Grand Kabuki," set to run from June 4, 2025, at Hakataza in Fukuoka.

His older brother, Kanzaburo IX, married actress Ai Maeda in 2009, and they have two children together. This family connection within the performing arts highlights the tradition and legacy of Kabuki, where familial ties often play a significant role.

In a time when personal lives are often scrutinized, Nakamura's announcement reflects a blend of tradition and modernity. By sharing his personal news through his agency, he maintains a level of professionalism while also inviting his fans to celebrate this new chapter in his life.

As the wedding date approaches, fans eagerly await more details about the ceremony and reception, which are anticipated to be held at a later date. This moment not only marks a new beginning for Nakamura Shichinosuke but also serves as a reminder of the enduring appeal of Kabuki theater and its stars.

Nakamura's journey is an inspiring tale of dedication and passion for the arts, and as he embarks on this new personal journey, his fans and the broader Kabuki community stand ready to support him. With his upcoming performances and personal commitments, Nakamura Shichinosuke continues to embody the spirit of resilience and creativity that defines the rich tradition of Kabuki.
