Mufti Emphasizes Importance Of Seeking Guidance During Ramadan

As Ramadan approaches, believers are reminded to engage in prayers and supplications to strengthen their faith.

In the Islamic tradition, the topic of prayer, specifically optional prayers and their significance, takes center stage during the month of Ramadan, an important period for Muslims worldwide. The Mufti of the Republic, Dr. Nazir Muhammad Ayyad, recently addressed multiple queries regarding prayers, emphasizing the value of sought after supplications and rituals that assist believers in strengthening their faith and relationship with Allah.

One prominent question posed to the Mufti concerns the permissibility of repeating the prayer known as Salat al-Istikhara, or the prayer of seeking guidance. He clarified that it is not only permissible but also commendable to perform this prayer multiple times until the individual feels at peace with their decision. This guidance is essential, especially during Ramadan, which is a time when many are making significant life decisions.

In his response, the Mufti highlighted that Salat al-Istikhara does not necessarily result in a dream or vision; rather, it is a deep supplication to Allah that one engages in before making choices that significantly impact their lives. It emphasizes turning to the divine for wisdom and reassurance, encouraging believers to rely on God as they navigate through their uncertainties.

The Mufti’s explanations come at a time when the importance of prayers, especially during Ramadan, is receiving heightened attention. Reports detail a surge in the search for prayers of the Prophet Muhammad during the holy month, with a particular emphasis on Night of Decree or Laylat al-Qadr, the night believed to hold unparalleled blessings. Believers seek the supplication recited during this time with much anticipation.

According to recent posts from Dar Al-Iftaa Al-Masryah, night 21 of Ramadan falls on March 20, 2025, starting at sunset, leading up to the dawn prayers on March 21, 2025. Similarly, odd-numbered nights spanning from the 21st to the 29th of Ramadan are highly revered, including night 27, which many believe is the most likely time for Laylat al-Qadr.

By engaging in extra prayers during these nights, worshipers hope to attain the rewards promised in numerous Hadiths from the Prophet Muhammad. In one narration, the Prophet said, “Whoever prays at night of Laylat al-Qadr with faith and seeking reward will have all their previous sins forgiven.” This highlights the significant spiritual opportunity these holy nights represent.

Citing Islamic tradition, the Mufti referred to worship practices that often include focused prayers and supplications during the final ten nights of Ramadan, when fervent efforts are made to search for Laylat al-Qadr. He conveyed, “Those who observe Ramadan sincerely will find their hearts opened, experiencing the pleasure and blessings of seeking forgiveness and nearness to Allah.”

Furthermore, multiple narrations emphasize that the blessings of Ramadan extend to shorter prayers, or the practice of Qasar, especially in cases where believers are traveling or face other challenges. However, differences continue to exist among scholars regarding the duration and implementation of shortening prayers during residency, with opinions ranging broadly between three days and extending up to fifteen.

In this enlightening conversation, Dr. Ayyad also touched upon the significance of Sujud al-Sahw, or prostration of forgetfulness, which is applied when the individual forgets specific parts of the prayer. This representation of human fallibility underscores Allah’s wisdom and mercy, encouraging followers to remain steadfast in their faith, even in moments of oversight.

Dr. Ayyad's comprehensive breakdown reveals that Ramadan is not only an opportunity for fasting but also for revitalizing one's spiritual practices and communal bonds through enhanced prayer and reflection. The Mufti encourages Muslims to remember that good works performed in this month yield greater rewards as stated in the Quran and various Hadiths.

As the important nights of Ramadan approach, Muslims are reminded of the beautiful practices that come with the spiritual observance of this holy month. The anticipation around Laylat al-Qadr serves to motivate many to pursue their prayers with sincerity and dedication.

In closing, the Mufti directed believers to remain engaged and informed about the significance of these prayers, suggesting they continue to seek knowledge and wisdom in their spiritual journeys, ultimately guiding them closer to Allah.
