Local Leaders Unite For Ramadan Charity Events Across Indonesia

Communities benefit from government support initiatives aimed at enhancing welfare and public facilities during the holy month.

On March 18, 2025, various regional leaders in Indonesia participated in events to commemorate the holy month of Ramadan, emphasizing community welfare and engagement.

In Bengkulu Utara, Arie Septia Adinata, the Bupati (Regent), attended the Safari Ramadan event held at Masjid Al Ghufron in Desa Tanah Hitam, Kecamatan Padang Jaya. This gathering was part of a government initiative to connect with citizens during Ramadan and included the distribution of community assistance.

One of the highlights of the Bengkulu event was the 'Light Up The Dream' program, which provided free electricity installations for underprivileged residents. Bupati Arie expressed sincere gratitude towards the local community, stating, "I am very thankful to everyone who has taken the time to welcome the Ramadan safari team at Masjid Al Ghufron. Despite the heavy rain, the community remained eager to attend." This program not only aims to enhance the quality of life for residents but also reinforces the bond between the government and its constituents.

During the event, after the breaking of the fast, Bupati Arie spoke about his commitment to improving citizen welfare through various programs. These include daily food assistance for needy elderly individuals, road construction, house repairs for those in need, and free education for elementary and junior high school students. He emphasized, "I have already allocated through the social services department that, if the President has implemented free nutritious food for schoolchildren, we also pay attention to elderly citizens who are less fortunate." Additionally, he instructed all school principals to refrain from collecting any fees from parents, fostering a completely free educational environment.

Meanwhile, in Papua Selatan, the local government also embraced the spirit of Ramadan with a visit to Masjid Al-Muhajirin in the Kurik District. Governor Apolo Safanpo oversaw the distribution of material support for the mosque's construction, which included 1,000 sacks of cement and 1,000 sheets of zinc. This assistance is viewed as part of the government's obligation to support religious communities and promote a harmonious interfaith environment.

Governor Apolo remarked that the government has a responsibility to assist various religious communities, emphasizing, "It is mandatory for the government to help religious communities in Papua Selatan. Muslim communities play a crucial role in supporting the provincial government's policies for regional development in all aspects." In addition to the material support, he addressed the need for mental and educational development. "Education is essential for creating quality human resources. The government is currently implementing talent management programs to prepare the youth for future leadership roles, particularly as we approach the centennial of Indonesian independence in 2045."

After his address, Governor Apolo handed out 400 packages of gifts and chili seed assistance to community residents, showcasing ongoing support for local growth and sustainability.

In a related initiative, Polresta Bogor Kota demonstrated its commitment to community support by providing carpets for the Istifham Mosque in Sindangrasa, East Bogor District. This symbolic gesture was aimed at enhancing the comfort and solemnity of worshipers during their prayers.

The chief of Polresta Bogor Kota stated, "We want mosques to be comfortable and conducive for all congregants. With this assistance, we hope to help promote harmony and religious awareness in Bogor City." This initiative received a warm welcome from the local community, reflecting the positive relations between law enforcement and citizens.

The Chairman of the DKM (Management of Mosque Communities) at Istifham Mosque expressed gratitude for the assistance, stating, "This aid means a lot to us. The new carpets will make worshippers more comfortable and devoted in prayer. We deeply appreciate Polresta Bogor Kota's concern for Masjid Istifham." The community has high hopes that this partnership will flourish moving forward.

The series of Ramadan events held across various regions in Indonesia demonstrates a strong commitment to community welfare, interfaith support, and the enhancement of public facilities geared towards a more engaged and supportive society. As these leaders continue to share their visions for improving local living conditions, the foundations are laid for a more inclusive and cooperative future.
