In the last 24 hours, the Republic of Moldova's border checkpoints recorded a significant influx of travelers, with a total of 43,177 crossings. This surge highlights the ongoing movement of people across the region, particularly through the busiest entry points.
The most trafficked border crossing was the Chișinău International Airport, which accounted for 11,366 crossings. Following closely were the Leușeni checkpoint with 5,958 crossings, Sculeni with 4,464, Palanca with 4,370, and Otaci with 3,558 crossings, as reported by the Border Police.
However, amidst this busy traffic, authorities also enforced strict regulations, resulting in the denial of entry to 28 foreign citizens attempting to enter Moldova. The reasons for these denials often stem from violations of entry requirements or improper documentation.
In addition to the denied entries, the Border Police reported several violations of border regulations. Specifically, there were four cases of illegal border crossing, seven instances of non-compliance with the rules of stay and entry, and another seven violations related to the state border regime. These figures reflect the ongoing challenges faced by border authorities in managing both legal and illegal crossings.
To help mitigate congestion at the border, the Border Police have recommended alternative crossing points for travelers. For those planning to use the Leușeni-Albița route, alternatives include the Leova-Bumbăta checkpoint, which operates from 08:00 to 20:00, or the Cahul-Oancea crossing. Travelers using the Sculeni-Sculeni checkpoint are advised to consider the Costești-Stânca or Lipcani-Rădăuți Prut crossings instead. Additionally, those intending to cross at the Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe checkpoint can opt for the Tudora-Starokazacie alternative.
For real-time updates on border traffic, the Border Police have provided a link to their web cameras, allowing travelers to check conditions before heading to the border. They also encourage anyone with further questions to contact their hotline at 022 259 717.
This recent surge in crossings and the strict enforcement of border regulations underscore the importance of compliance with entry requirements. As travel continues to increase, both travelers and authorities must remain vigilant to ensure smooth operations at Moldova's borders.
