The Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) has launched the call for the 2025 enrollment process for the Bachillerato Nacional, significantly changing how students gain access to high school. Starting on March 18, 2025, the previously used Comipems exam will be replaced with online registration, allowing students to choose their desired institutions directly.
Under the slogan “¡Mi derecho, mi lugar!” (My Right, My Place), SEP aims to simplify the registration process as thousands of students across Mexico City and neighboring municipalities prepare to transition from secondary education. With this new system, young graduates will be able to select from various options, ranking up to 10 preferred institutions, making the process more streamlined and accessible.
A key part of the change is the elimination of the Comipems exam, which previously determined student placements within various public secondary educational institutions. This shift intends to create more equitable opportunities for students seeking admission to high school.
The new enrollment process caters to both local students and those from the surrounding areas of the State of Mexico. Eligible students include those currently finishing their third year of secondary school, as well as graduates who possess their certification.
To register, students must first create personal email accounts through the registration system available at miderechomilugar.gob.mx. It is important for applicants to also provide contact information for their parent or legal guardian to receive updates and information throughout the enrollment process.
Once registered, students will need to input their personal details—such as CURP, phone numbers, and addresses. They will also upload their secondary school certificates and select their top preferences for high school institutions, with up to 10 options allowed.
Those not wishing to take entrance exams can choose from several institutions, including:
- Colegio de Bachilleres (COLBACH)
- Conalep
- Instituto de Educación Media Superior de la Ciudad de México (IEMS)
- Dirección General de Educación Tecnológica Industrial y de Servicios (DGETI)
- Dirección General de Bachillerato (DGB)
For students wishing to enter competitive institutions such as the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) or the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), the registration period will run separately from May 19 to 22, during which candidates must attend specific procedures, including photo identification for exam credentials.
By implementing these new regulations, the SEP and the Espacio de Coordinación de la Educación Media Superior (ECOEMS)—which coordinates the various educational institutions—strive to guarantee placement for students. The new measures will focus on direct and transparent processes, addressing concerns about equitable access to education.
Results for the assignment of spaces will officially be announced on August 19, 2025, with students required to check their status using their CURP and assigned folio numbers on the same portal. Should any student not receive their desired placement, they will be directed to other institutions with open spots, ensuring no one is left without options.
The enrollment process intends to not only facilitate direct entry but also provide avenues for students with disabilities and those from marginalized backgrounds, underscoring the government's commitment to inclusive education.
Parents and guardians are also encouraged to participate actively, ensuring their children select institutions closest to their homes or those offering preferred programs and courses.
This new directive from the SEP aims to protect students and help them avoid potential challenges linked to higher education access, guiding them toward healthier, more productive futures.
With this comprehensive approach, the SEP hopes to strengthen Mexico’s educational framework, making it more adaptable and responsive to the needs of its students. The official information on the process, including the registration forms, can be accessed easily at the aforementioned web portal, reinforcing transparency and accessibility.
