Mexico Expands Welfare Program For Women Aged 60 To 64

Starting August 2025, millions of women can register for the Pensión Mujeres Bienestar program to receive 3,000 pesos bimonthly.

The Government of Mexico has announced significant developments related to the Pensión Mujeres Bienestar program, aimed at providing financial support to older women across the nation. Starting August 2025, Mexican women aged between 60 and 64 will be able to register for this program, which offers bimonthly payments of 3,000 pesos through the Tarjeta del Bienestar, as confirmed by Ariadna Montiel Reyes, head of the Secretaría del Bienestar.

Previously, the program exclusively catered to women aged 63 and 64, but this expansion targets approximately two million additional recipients. This move underlines the government’s commitment to enhancing financial security for women during their later years, addressing economic disparities, and acknowledging the substantial contributions women have made to society.

“The Pensión Mujeres Bienestar is now set to become universally accessible to all women within this age bracket, regardless of their geographic or cultural background,” Montiel stated during her briefing on March 10, 2025. This initiative not only aims to alleviate poverty but also to empower older women by recognizing their invaluable roles.

The registration window for this program will open on August 4, 2025, and close on August 30, 2025. To facilitate the process, registrations will be organized alphabetically based on the first letter of the applicant's last name. Specific dates assigned for registration are as follows: for names starting with A, B, C on August 4, 11, 18, and 25; D through H on August 5, 12, 19, and 26; I through M on August 6, 13, 20, and 27; N through R on August 7, 14, 21, and 28; and S through Z on August 8, 15, 22, and 29. Every applicant can register on all letters on August 9, 16, 23, and 30, 2025.

To participate, interested women must fulfill several criteria, including being residents of the State of Mexico, possessing valid identification, birth certificates, CURP numbers, proof of address issued within the last three months, and contact details. The registration process will be conducted at designated Bienestar modules throughout the region.

The launch of the Pensión Mujeres Bienestar program forms part of broader social reform efforts by the government, which has allocated around 850 billion pesos to social programs for the current year, equivalent to 2.5% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product. This investment is intended to combat poverty, promote equality, and bolster the internal market by increasing household consumption.

Montiel underscored the importance of this program, stating, “No other country has implemented such extensive social support systems. This initiative combats poverty and inequality, and by providing resources, we can stimulate the economy, leading to increased consumption, which reactivates the entire market.”

Alongside the Pensión Mujeres Bienestar, additional social initiatives continue to be rolled out. Notably, the universal Rita Cetina Gutiérrez scholarship program has commenced for secondary students and is set to expand by 2026 to include primary and preschool education.

Currently, 5.8 million people have already received their bimester payments for March-April 2025, with additional payments scheduled for those registered under various programs, including the Pensión and Sembrando Vida initiatives. The transparency of disbursing funds is facilitated through the use of the Tarjeta Bienestar, ensuring beneficiaries can access their resources safely and directly.

Local authorities are urging potential applicants to prepare their documentation well before the registration period commences. They are encouraged to visit the official Bienestar website to locate the nearest module where applications can be processed. “We assure all prospective beneficiaries to be proactive about their registration to avoid any inconveniences,” Montiel advised.

Overall, the Pensión Mujeres Bienestar program is viewed as not only financial aid but also as social recognition of the dignity and contributions of women throughout Mexico’s history. Moving forward, the initiative aims to create lasting positive impacts on the quality of life for older women and their families, fostering a more equitable society.

More comprehensive informational campaigns will be made available to raise awareness of upcoming registration dates and requirements, ensuring all eligible women can take advantage of this beneficial program.
