Memphis Grizzlies Set Franchise Record With 155 Points

A dominating victory over Toronto Raptors highlights Memphis’ scoring prowess this season as team aims for playoffs.

The Memphis Grizzlies achieved historic heights on Thursday night, setting a franchise record by scoring 155 points against the Toronto Raptors, clinching a decisive 155-126 victory. This remarkable performance not only showcased the Grizzlies’ offensive prowess but also extended their winning streak to seven victories out of their last nine games.

Jaren Jackson Jr. and rookie Zach Edey stood out with double-doubles, each recording over 21 points. Jackson Jr. scored 21 points and secured 11 rebounds, and Edey followed closely with 21 points and 16 rebounds. The victory marked the highest point total ever for the franchise, solidifying their status as the NBA’s highest-scoring team this season.

The Grizzlies’ scoring depth was evident, as eight players reached double digits, including Desmond Bane with 19 points and Jaylen Wells with 17. Even Ja Morant, usually the focal point of their offense, contributed with 15 points and nine assists. Bench players Scotty Pippen Jr. and Luke Kennard both added 15 points, alongside Brandon Clarke’s 11.

For Toronto, the loss dropped them to 1-14 on the road, continuing their struggle as they faced their ninth consecutive defeat. RJ Barrett led the Raptors with 27 points, complemented by 10 assists and nine rebounds. Scottie Barnes also made strides, finishing the night with 26 points and eight assists.

The game was marred for the Raptors when head coach Darko Rajakovic was ejected with just over 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter after his heated dispute with officials. Following Rajakovic’s exit, the Grizzlies capitalized, pulling their lead to as much as 32 points. Rajakovic, who previously served as an assistant coach for Memphis, could be seen being restrained by his staff as he expressed his frustration over the officiation.

The first quarter set the tone for the evening as the Grizzlies scored 43 points, matching their season-high for any quarter. Memphis jumped out to a 19-point lead merely midway through the first. Although they couldn't maintain their momentum, as the Raptors clawed back to tie the game multiple times late in the second period, the Grizzlies finished the first half with the lead at 78-70.

Memphis shot 53.2 percent from the field compared to Toronto’s 45.4 percent overall. The Grizzlies' rebounding dominance was illustrated by their 63-40 advantage on the boards, which played to their strength under the basket throughout the game.

Notably, the game was also affected by the absence of Santi Aldama, who left the second quarter after injuring his left ankle on a non-contact play. Aldama's exit dealt a blow to the Grizzlies, allowing Toronto to outscore Memphis 50-43 for the remainder of the half before they could recover and extend their lead.

The collective performance of the Grizzlies has only intensified the anticipation surrounding their upcoming ten-day road trip, one where they will face significant challenges. The team understands the importance of sustaining their momentum, especially with several tough matchups looming on their schedule.

This landmark victory not only serves as evidence of the Grizzlies’ offensive efficiency, but also as a landmark moment for the team, who continually strives to improve their standing among the league's elite. With the franchise setting the tone for continued success this season, fans are left eager for what’s next.

Despite their struggles, the Raptors will need to regroup quickly if they hope to defy the odds and break their losing streak. Their continued inability to capture wins on the road has put mounting pressure on the coaching staff and players alike as they seek to turn their season around.
