Matsuhira Ken, Korokke, Hisamoto Masami, and Kakurei are set to reunite for the highly anticipated sequel of the "Daigyakuten!" series, titled "Daigyakuten! Sengoku Bushou Homareuta." Slated to premiere on September 20, 2025, at the Meiji-za theater in Tokyo, the new production is a continuation of their previous work, which garnered great acclaim during its run.
Following the success of "Daigyakuten! Oedo Sakura Homareuta," which was performed in March 2023, the talented quartet is returning to the stage to deliver another engaging performance. The script is being crafted once again by Tohru Hosokawa, a playwright known for his unique storytelling style that combines humor, drama, and entertainment.
This upcoming show shifts its setting to the Sengoku period of Japan, featuring Matsuhira as the famed warlord Oda Nobunaga and Kakurei as his wife Omo, while Korokke plays the legendary Toyotomi Hideyoshi, accompanied by Hisamoto, who takes on the role of Hideyoshi's wife, Nene. The narrative promises to encapsulate not just the epic tales of these historical figures but also inject elements of laughter, tears, samba, and surprises that make up the fabric of a memorable entertainment era.
In anticipation of the show's premiere, Matsuhira expressed his excitement, stating, "This new stage set in the Sengoku era has a completely different Nobunaga than what I've portrayed previously. It seems I've been given a chance to dramatically influence history in a new way. Working with the wonderful cast again, I can’t wait to deliver a hilarious and moving performance to everyone this autumn!”
Expressing his enthusiasm, Korokke shared, "I'm so happy to work with the same team again. We have excellent teamwork, and I had a tremendous amount of fun with them. I'm thrilled to take on the role of Hideyoshi this time. I will seamlessly fit my interpretation of the character against Matsuhira's portrayal of Nobunaga, promising an entertaining experience for everyone!"
Hisamoto echoed this sentiment, saying, “It’s a joy to be on stage with Matsuhira and Korokke once more! Our differing personalities will create a great chemistry, and I believe Hosokawa’s exceptional script and direction will take us to a level of hilarity that will leave audiences captivated.”
The excitement among the cast is palpable, with Kakurei commenting on the collaborative effort: “Reuniting with Matsuhira, Korokke, and Hisamoto is simply thrilling! The former work was filled with joy and emotion, and now gathering together again under Hosokawa's direction feels like a dream. I'm so eager to see just how this new version will take shape!”
Tohru Hosokawa, the driving force behind the creative process, added, “I thought the previous performance was a one-off event, but to have these four talents reunite is outstanding! Expect a show filled with action, song, dance, laughter, tears, and impressions, making this sequel even more magnificent than the last, wrapped up with a finalé that includes the hit 'Matsuken Samba II.'”
The performances will run from September 20 to October 19, 2025, at the Meiji-za in Tokyo, with an additional show scheduled at the Shin Kabukiza in Osaka from November 8 to November 24, 2025. Theater enthusiasts and fans of these celebrated performances can quickly get their tickets for a show that promises a delightful blend of comedy and historical adventure!
