Masters Par 3 Contest Kicks Off 2025 Tournament Festivities

A family-friendly tradition sets the stage for the Masters with golfers and their loved ones taking to the course.

The 2025 Masters Par 3 Contest kicks off today at Augusta National, marking the unofficial start of one of golf's most prestigious tournaments. This beloved tradition, held each Wednesday before the Masters, features a relaxed atmosphere where players bring their families to enjoy a fun-filled day on the course.

Ninety-one golfers, including some of the biggest names in the sport, will participate in the one-round competition on Augusta's picturesque Par 3 course. The event has become a family affair, with players often inviting their children and significant others to join them on the course, clad in the iconic white Augusta National caddie jumpsuits.

Among the notable participants today are defending champion Rickie Fowler, who won the Par 3 Contest last year with a score of 22, as well as fan favorites Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Bryson DeChambeau. The Par 3 Contest is not just about competition; it’s a chance for players to unwind and enjoy the lighter side of golf before the intensity of the Masters begins.

The Par 3 Contest has a storied history, having been introduced in 1960. Over the years, it has seen a staggering 112 holes-in-one, with the most remarkable year being 2016 when nine aces were recorded. However, there's a quirky superstition surrounding the event: no golfer who has won the Par 3 Contest has ever gone on to win the Masters in the same year. This has led some players to let their family members take shots on their behalf, adding to the jovial atmosphere.

Today's contest is set to begin at noon ET, with live coverage available on ESPN+, Masters.com, and the Masters app. ESPN will take over the broadcast from 2 to 4 p.m. ET, providing fans with all the action from Augusta’s scenic Par 3 course.

As the players tee off, the weather is expected to be pleasant, with temperatures in the 60s and light winds blowing in from the east. This idyllic setting is sure to create lasting memories for both players and fans alike.
