Major Roadwork Causes Significant Delays Across Ontario

Drivers should prepare for 126 highway closures on April 14 as roadwork disrupts traffic flow in multiple regions.

Motorists in Ontario should prepare for significant delays on April 14, 2025, as roadwork will cause multiple highway closures across the region. With a total of 126 closures planned, drivers are advised to plan their routes accordingly to avoid traffic jams and potential gridlock.

In Halton, four closures are set to impact the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) Fort Erie bound. The on-ramp at Fairview Street / Plains Road in Burlington will see all lanes closed from April 2 at 11 p.m. until April 18 at 5 a.m. Additionally, two right lanes will be closed between Northshore Boulevard and Burlington Skyway from April 16 at 11 p.m. until April 17 at 6 a.m. Another closure at the same on-ramp will occur from April 14 at 11 p.m. until April 17 at 5 a.m., and one left lane will be closed in the same area from April 16 at 10 p.m. until April 17 at 6 a.m.

Simcoe County also faces extensive roadwork, with 38 closures scheduled. Key disruptions include one alternating lane closed on Highway 93 northbound between Highway 400, Springwater, and Highway 12 / Angela Schmidt Foster Road, Tay, from April 13 at 8 p.m. until April 17 at 7 a.m. The Highway 400 northbound off-ramp at Highway 12 North Junction, Tay, will be entirely closed from April 14 at 9 a.m. until April 17 at 12 p.m. Further, one alternating lane will be closed on Highway 12 southbound between Highway 400 and Highway 400, Oro Medonte, from April 14 at 9 a.m. until April 17 at 12 p.m.

Niagara drivers will also experience delays, as 22 closures are scheduled for the same day. Notably, the Queen Elizabeth Way Fort Erie bound between Baker Road, Niagara Falls, and Gilmore Road, Fort Erie, will have one alternating lane closed from April 13 at 12 a.m. until April 28 at 11:59 p.m. Additionally, two alternating lanes will be closed between Fifteen Mile Creek and Highway 406, St. Catharines, from April 14 at 9 p.m. until April 25 at 6 a.m.

In Waterloo, two closures are set to disrupt traffic, including two alternating lanes closed on Highway 401 westbound between Roseville Road and Roseville Road, Kitchener, from April 14 at 10 p.m. until April 16 at 6 a.m.

York Region will see the highest number of closures, with 26 scheduled. Among these, one alternating lane will be closed on Highway 400 northbound between Highway 7 and Langstaff Road, Vaughan, from April 13 at 10 p.m. until April 19 at 6 a.m. Also, two alternating lanes will be closed between Major Mackenzie Drive, Vaughan, and King Road, King, from April 13 at 8 p.m. until April 17 at 6 a.m.

Motorists are encouraged to check traffic reports and allow extra time for their journeys. The Ontario Ministry of Transportation advises drivers to remain patient and drive safely through construction zones.
