Major Road Closures Announced In El Paso And Moreton Bay

Severe weather and construction lead to extensive road disruptions for commuters this week

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) El Paso has announced an extensive list of road closures for the week of March 28, 2025, which may significantly affect local commuters. As construction and maintenance work ramps up, drivers are urged to plan their routes accordingly.

Beginning Monday, March 31, through Saturday, April 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., alternate lane closures will be in effect on North Desert and South Desert between Anthony and Redd Road. Additionally, Redd Road will also see alternate lane closures at its intersections with North Desert and South Desert during the same timeframe. Crews will be engaged in electrical and miscellaneous construction work throughout this period.

On I-10, both westbound and eastbound lanes between Redd and Mesa will experience alternate lane closures as crews work on paving. A more significant disruption is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, at 4 a.m. when a full closure of I-10 westbound between Sunland Park and Resler Exit Ramp will take place. This closure will last until Monday, April 7, at 5 a.m., totaling 49 hours. Detours will direct traffic to exit at Sunland Park/Resler Exit ramp (Exit 13), proceed to CD Lanes using the Resler Exit (Exit 12), and continue on CD Lanes to the Mesa intersection.

Following this, another major closure is set for Saturday, April 12, at 4 a.m. to Monday, April 15, at 5 a.m. During this time, the I-10 westbound at Mesa Exit ramp will be closed, requiring similar detours for motorists.

In addition to these closures, South Desert between Vinton and Transmountain will remain closed 24/7 until further notice. The Redd Road east-to-westbound and west-to-eastbound turnaround is also under complete closure until further notice, affecting traffic flow significantly in the area. Furthermore, the Mesa on-ramp to I-10 East will be closed continuously until further notice.

From March 31 through April 5, there will be alternate lane closures on I-10 East and West between Anthony and Nashua, as well as on North and South Desert in the same area. The complete closure at Valley Chile Road Turnaround will persist through Spring 2026 due to ongoing bridge reconstruction and widening efforts.

For those traveling at night, full closures of I-10 West between Transmountain and Vinton are scheduled from March 31 through April 3, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Traffic will need to exit at Transmountain Exit, navigate through the intersections of Transmountain and Vinton on North Desert, and re-enter I-10 West at the Vinton on-ramp. Similar closures will occur again on Monday, April 7, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Bridge work will also impact traffic as I-10 eastbound at Kansas St. will see main lane and shoulder closures on Tuesday, April 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On April 2, both I-10 west and eastbound at Trowbridge Dr. will have turnarounds closed, and the right lane of Gateway Blvd East at Trowbridge will also be closed.

Further closures will occur on April 3, with I-10 east- and westbound at Hawkins turnaround being shut down. The following week, there will be various lane and off-ramp closures throughout the area as crews conduct guardrail repairs and maintenance work.

In addition to the extensive roadwork in El Paso, heavy rain has caused significant flooding in the City of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia, leading to multiple road closures. The Moreton Bay City Council issued a weather alert on March 28, 2025, warning residents of an increased risk of severe weather. Flooding has been reported across various suburbs, including Brendale, Bunya, and Caboolture, affecting numerous roads.

As of 6:25 p.m. on March 28, several roads were closed due to flooding, including Leitchs Road Pedestrian Bridge at South Pine River, Dugandan Road at Bunya Crossing Reserve, and multiple roads in Caboolture and Dayboro. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Flood Watch for the Gulf Country to South East Queensland, which includes the Pine and Caboolture rivers. The Council was directed by Seqwater to close Youngs Crossing Road starting from 2 p.m. on the same day due to water releases from North Pine Dam.

The list of affected roads continues to grow as the region grapples with the aftermath of the severe weather. Residents are advised to stay updated through the council's disaster dashboard and to avoid unnecessary travel in flooded areas.

In summary, both El Paso and Moreton Bay are facing significant transportation challenges as road closures due to construction and severe weather impact local commuters. Residents in both regions are encouraged to stay informed about the latest updates and to plan their travel routes accordingly to avoid delays.
